Do you think he cost Trump the election?

Almost everyone agrees his set was a bad move

reply

Only time will tell.

But it wasn’t the best look. Kind of like a Michael Richards level comedy bomb.

reply

No

EDIT: Let me elaborate. If anyone is deciding to vote for someone because of a bad joke from a comedian is fucking stupid. Tony isn't racist and even if he was, that doesn't represent Donald Trump or his positions. This is all just a hail marry to try to get some undecided people to flip. If you're flipping your vote because of an opener comedian, you're fucking dumb. But you do you, I guess.

reply

Hopefully

reply

If so, well done I say.

reply

of course not. Anyone who was offended by his jokes were never going to vote for Trump anyway.

reply

Might be a few Puerto Ricans who thought after hearing jokes like the one comparing PR to a garbage island who come away thinking, "you know, I don't think these people care for us very much."

reply

Exactly! We can only hope...

reply

We'll find out next week.

I doubt this "cost Trump the election".

First, it was a joke made by an insult comic. Of course he's going to roast people. Second, it Trump himself didn't say it, and it's kind of hard to attribute to Trump what one of a bunch of speakers says at his rally.

Third, Puerto Ricans living in the United States are concentrated in New York and Florida. New York is solidly Democrat, and Florida is solidly Trump.

Fourth, a large number of Puerto Ricans would actually have to be offended, so much so that they not only don't vote for Trump, but that they switch their vote to Harris. For all we know, many Puerto Ricans might have thought it to be funny, or just brushed it off.

reply

Don't be stupid. Trump was trying a major outreach to Latinos. Any Puerto Ricans who were considering voting for TRump will definitely take a second look. There are about 3 million Puerto Ricans of voting age in the U.S. If only 1% of them were repulsed by the garbage joke, that's 30,000 votes and that could hurt Trump in such a close election, tipping the balance in a state like Pennsylvania.
