Better than Metallica, Slayer and Pantera.
I know their first album was in '77, but they're pretty much better than all the other big 80s bands.

shareMetallica, Slayer and Pantera are not worse than Motorhead. All those bands are very good so your comment is just your opinion. Don't get me wrong because I really like Motorhead but there are many other metal bands that are as good or better. 🤘🏻
shareThere are other I like better than Motorhead, but of the popular 80s ones, I prefer Motorhead over the ones I mentioned.
shareI won tickets to see Motørhead, opening for, Dio, and Iron Maiden from a radio contest. I was the first to request a song on the radio, which was 'One Shot at Glory' by Judas Preist. Welp, the radio host said that no one knows that song, so they ended up playing 'Painkiller' instead.
Good times.
Those bands are thrash metal. Lemmy didn't even consider Motörhead metal, I think he said he felt more kinship with punk. I'd say Motörhead is metal, but not thrash metal, just early metal.
shareHe mostly referred to Motorhead as rock n roll but yes he felt more aligned with punk, that raw fast sound.
shareMetal is metal.
shareMetallica in particular wouldn't exist as we know them without Motorhead as their drummer Lars used to follow Motorhead on tour like a little fan boy. Metallica were influenced by all the British and European bands who played heavier than the radio friendly American ones.
I like Motorhead even though their sound at times is kind of limited. But that is also what makes them who they are. They did try some more broader sounds like the 1916 album though and Lemmy at one point wanted to do an acoustic album.
In the mid 80s, Motorhead started to sound the same when everything was just speed metal. I like them better with the punk elements.
shareLove 'em. Still have hearing damage from seeing them live.
