Executive Order ditching paper straws in favor of plastic

Which only makes sense after researchers discovered that microplastics—and even smaller nanoplastics—from the environment are entering our bodies, with the highest concentrations found in the brain and how these plastic particles may contribute to neurodegenerative diseases.

Why doesn't trump understand that some of the plastic straws have a paper wrapper? Just take the wrapper off, Donald!

Great executive order. In just a few days Trump may well have earned the title of Best President Ever.

The amount of daily screaming from Leftists is a measure of how much good he’s doing, and it’s deafening.

reply

This attention-addicted idiot who occupies the Oval Office churns out nonsensical executive orders like so many paper treats for his deranged MAGA followers.

reply

About the only good thing he's done.

Would love to see McDonald's fries cooked again in Beef again.

So I remain hopeful.

reply

And while they are going back to the old ways, ditch the baked apple pie and go back to the fried version.

It's like every day is Christmas since January 20th.

I'm a leftist type and my focus has been on helping poor people and classic ideas like that, not making it okay for trans people to use women's locker rooms, or pretending we don't need cars, and other nonsense.

Paper straws are horrible and don't work.

Straws also help millions of people who have no personal time so they must eat while driving. So, having and effective cup and straw increase safety. Even if that's not important, paper straws do not work.

The modern fake liberal is a gaslighter and claims things that are not real are and that has made liberalism look stupid.

Hopefully, Trump will help liberalism by making eliminating the stupid stuff and forcing people to think more rationally.

reply

Not sure I entirely understand your post. At least entirely.

No one is trying to eliminate the use of straws.

Also not sure why wanting to steer away from plastic straws has to be a "liberal" thing.

If it was Biden steering us toward plastic it would be just as questionable.

You need to get out more...

The whole thing is called "single use plastic" and paper straws have been an issue with irrational liberals for decades.

There has been a big attempt to make straws out of modified pasta, potatoes, and other substances that are biodegradable, again, for a long time.

The reasons it's "liberal" is because it's something people concerned about the environment get behind, lie about, and claim is doable when it's not. It's part of a whole bunch of ideas about how we should not be living as we are when there's no real alternative.

I'm a liberal type but despise the irrational variety saying we should use cars, oil, straws, eat this or that, and so on when it's all not possible in our civilization.

"You need to get out more..."

Hmmm . . . always a bad sign when someone feels the need to begin a post with a snarky remark.

"The whole thing is called "single use plastic" and paper straws have been an issue with irrational liberals for decades."

When I said I don't know why steering away from plastic (in the context of my original post) has to be a liberal thing, I was referring to the idea that micro plastics may turn out to be very harmful -- as I originally said "may contribute to neurodegenerative diseases."

That we should ween ourselves away from ingesting plastic particulates should not be a part of any political divide. I know many conservatives who care about the environment, health issues such as nanoparticles, and even receive vaccines! So because I know many such people in my private life, I recoil at the idea of this concern being categorized as "liberal." That's my context.

Per the rest of your comment, environmentalists get it wrong sometimes, they "lie," but then, there are anti-environmentalists who lie. All that means is that we all are responsible for doing our homework on each issue and not just choosing a side and vilifying the other.

"I'm a liberal type but despise the irrational variety saying we should use cars, oil, straws, eat this or that, and so on when it's all not possible in our civilization."

The "irrational variety" -- a liberal? Who says we should use cars, oil, straws, etc.? I think you misspoke.

There are real concerns in the world that we should all recognize and support efforts -- the correct effort (no matter which side comes up with the best idea) -- to rectify before greater harm is done.

This includes nanoparticles, space junk, climate change, etc.

Ignoring it. Denying it. Pretending it doesn't exist. Will never solve the problems which will eventually swallow us whole.

And to suggest "there's no other way" is thinking like an insect.
