One thing to keep in mind about this case.

Now that the verdict has been rendered, and all the evidence made public, it's easy to see what a slam-dunk this case was. Any reasonable person could see what the verdict would be, and the jury followed the evidence to come to the correct conclusion. No one with intelligence and honesty is disputing that.

All that said, this case would never have come to trial if it was up to Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx, who decided to drop all charges against Smollett in exchange for Smollett performing community service. Luckily, due to public outcry, in addition to the Chicago mayor and police, a grand jury was formed, which indicted him on six other crimes, and the trial happened.

But it does bring up the question of what Kim Foxx's agenda is, and what other cases has she placed her thumb on the scales of justice - cases that aren't in the public spotlight like this one was. And she's not alone. There are reports from all over the country about DAs who are going soft on crime - but only if the crime fits their view of the world where everything is seen through a racial prism.

When you send the message that the system isn't going to prosecute certain crimes committed by certain individuals, it only makes sense that that will result in more of those kinds of crimes happening. Which, of course, translates into innocent people suffering.

This sort of crime happens more than most people think. Usually there are no charges, but offenders do often have to write apologies and a retraction. Usually the offenders are left with a black mark on their file.

"This sort of crime happens more than most people think."

That's a vague statement. What sort of crime, and can you give examples?

It's obvious from the jury's decision that Foxx had her own agenda.

reply

I was referring to people who make false police reports - alleging an offence that never happened.

For example, neighbors who don't get along; one might call the cops on the other and accuse the other of a crime. Sometimes when a couple is getting a divorce, one spouse might accuse the other of molesting their kid.

I realize these are serious incidents but not all get prosecuted. Oddly, a retraction and an apology are all that happen.

But those kinds of cases don't have the repercussions that this case did. The national news media don't call attention to them to promote their agendas and foment hatred. And the police don't commit the amount of resources that were used in this case, costing the police over a hundred thousand dollars and many wasted days of investigation.

Also, Smollett has never apologized for any of this. In fact, he's still lying and claiming it was real, even after he's been convicted.

In the cases I mentioned real people are mentioned and are put under investigation. They suffer real consequences of such as being accused of a crime, being let go from their jobs and becoming a social pariah. They may not be in the national headlines or be the subject of a national debate, but the fallout is very real.

I do agree with your comment about Smollet being unapologetic about his behavior. It will no doubt have an effect on his sentence. Even Smollet admitted that this case has killed his career; he has pretty much been blacklisted from the entertainment industry. The greatest impact will be on how his life will be after this is over.

Kim Foxx is a good example of why affirmative action and intersectionality are bad public policies.

Yep!

Affirmative action is just wrong. And I think Foxx is another George Soros pawn.

Kim Foxx is a disgrace and should be fired for not doing her job.
