This guy's career is over....
He'll never live this down.
shareyeah this bozo really pooped the bed
shareHe shouldn't, but we live in a world that's backwards. I wouldn't be the least surprised if he comes out as the new hero of the New Left. Some wag said he'd be sentenced to at least three best sellers and a career in politics. Probably not far off.
shareOr maybe he'll get hired as the new host of "Punk'd".
shareI liked Smolett, I believed his story, but if the allegations are true then he deserves to be behind bars. What he did was just awful.

Because he's Black — Despite what many racists in America seem to think, you get very few chances when you are Black. If you screw them up, that's it. If you make a major mistake, then it's “Game Over”. Smollet made a major mistake.share
He's openly gay — If he was closeted, he could be used in a wide variety of roles. As an openly gay actor, he’s about to find out (Assuming that he didn't already know) that there's not much out there for him.
He's too well-known— Casting Smollet will distract from the stars of any other production, as well as from the production itself. A minor actor who draws attention away from the major players or the work itself, is rarely welcome.
He's not that good of an actor— He's not a comedian. He's not a Shakespearean. He's not an action star. And he can't portray a believable straight romantic lead. Basically, he was already operating in a narrow range and that's not going to be enough to keep him employed.
He can't be trusted— If the allegations behind this event are proven to be true (That Smollet attempted to extort his current employer into giving him a salary increase) then almost no production is going want to deal with him. The very few who might will make him sign very restrictive contracts to protect themselves from a similar occurrence, they'll fire him for the least violation of that contract, and they will offer him far less money as he's “damaged goods”. No matter what Smollet does going forward, no one in the business is going to risk trusting him for years to come.
I'd just love it if Jussie comes out of this pretty unscathed and with a healthy and successful career.
It will truly prove the narrative contained in your first paragraph wrong.
But I wonder how many people actually want to prove that narrative wrong...hmmm...
Remember people, in today's climate, narrative is everything. And people come off second best. Everything must be sacrificed to further the narrative.
It reminds me of the (historically dubious) scene in the film, Amistad, where the white abolitionist, played by Stellan Skarsgard argues that it is better for the escaped African slaves to die so that they may become martyrs and better support the overall cause of ending slavery. As we're now seeing in real life, 'liberals' are sacrificing real POC, real members of the LGBTQ community, and real women, for the overall 'good' of the narrative.
I actually hope that he isn't lying. I like him and hope that he didn't do what he is being accused of. It just looks so bad. I do know that when the story first came out Trump lovers were already saying that he was lying, so maybe that had a little to with the fact that the cops are not believing his story. I also heard that the FBI says that Smolett did NOT send or write the threatening letter. We will have to wait and see.
