basically it was an incredibly smug and dismissive type of comment that lumped all people of a acceptable to humiliate group together and said 'your opinion doesn't matter'. But in addition to that you should watch her many interviews on Captain Marvel and Avengers Endgame and just see how smug and unlikable she presents herself to be. She might not be that awful but she certainly appears to be.
Look up how she responds to Chris Hemsworth asking her if she is going to be the next Tom Cruise when she is talking about doing all of her own stunts (then look up insider info and see how many of her stunts were done by a stunt double).
In short, just constant subtle jabs of nastiness towards others, arrogance, and self absorption. She makes it very difficult to root for her.

What i know is, that when you look at things, people, ideas and deeds the right wingers hate, it almost always turns out to be correct, and/or logical, and/or humane. And looking at this opposing group i see barely literate, insecure white boys (i'm a white male myself, just not insecure or illiterate), who are not brave enough to admit the real reasons they are complaining about a certain thing.
These people have been complaining about everything Brie is and Brie does, ever since she brought up a point about equal opportunities and refused to appeal to the lowest common denominator. They even complain how Captain Marvel is overpowered (she is not, she is basically Marvel's Superman), because it threatens their imaginary white male hillbilly supremacy. It may come down to one's world view, but I've noticed time and time again that the right wing tends to support the things that are fact-based and/or ethical, and the left tends to ignore truth in favor of emotion, while being hypocritical and self-serving, and typically ends up on the wrong side of history. Not always, this is, as you said, a rule of thumb, but it has proven true time and time again.
