Had Aaliyah not tragically died in 2001...

Would she have had a career like Beyoncé’s? Or bigger? Maybe not as big but still a big career?

reply

I agree with you . Better actress then b, better musician as well

She had the potential to be a lot of things. Her life was cut too short just when her career should have been beginning. Heck she may have turned out to be Beyoncé's role model. Imagine what her life would be like now if that had happened?

She wouldn't be as big as beyonce if only because she wasn't writing her own stuff. She had good producers behind her - but her singing voice wasn't all that powerful, and again, she didn't write her stuff. Sure, there are some singers who did well in history despite not having written any of their stuff, but the ones who wrote their hits are the ones you could easily bet on having a big career long-term.

If she got married to Timbaland (not likely), she'd have good long-term prospects.

reply

Most likely. She was a trend starter and had her career taken off before the tragic stop.

Funnily enough, I've always firmly believed that, had Aaliyah lived, Beyoncé wouldn't have had the career she's had. I think people forget the level of popularity she had risen to. She had just finished two films and was signed onto at least three more, including the Matrix Sequels (which, despite they turned out, was a huge accomplishment at the time). Beyoncé hadn't even gone solo from Destiny's Child at that point.

I don't know if Aaliyah would've sustained her huge popularity; over time, it's possible she would be producing less music as R. Kelly's interest in her waned (had to say it). But I still imagine she would've been the Beyoncé of today. And I also think music today would have been shaped differently by her style, which would've been interesting. Imagine a Billie Eilish/Aaliyah collab? I totally would listen.

I think Beyonce would still be big and Aaliyah would be right up there with her. Heck, the two of them probably would have worked together a few times.

I don't doubt that. R&B was really taking off in the early 2000s, and Beyoncé was definitely the star of rising trio Destiny's Child. But I just wonder how Aaliyah remaining alive would have shaped the music scene. I also wonder if some of the songs Beyoncé released, which were often sampled - such as 03 Bonnie and Clyde - would have gone to Aaliyah instead? If so, I can see her career being less successful.

The safe bet is that she would of had a few good/profitable years in music and film but would she have become a huge star?????????????????? Who knows?

I liked her.
