The comics I grew up with were those of the 1950s and 1960s. From that point of view, the original Christopher Reeve film captured the Man of Steel and the tone of the Metropolis world of the comics perfectly. When I was a small boy, I watched the George Reeves tv show religiously, and it still holds a place in my heart. In spite of it's comparatively low budget, it also mirrored the comics of its time very well. I don't know why the photos of Reeves accompanying the article are black-and-white, because the series was shot in color (although most people didn't have color tv sets until several years later).
