How Much Did He Used To Drink A Day?

10 pints of lager a day? A bottle of vodka?

reply

That would get him through breakfast.

reply

That's enough to kill someone from alcohol poisoning, surely?

reply

That is what eventually happened, yes.

reply

I don't remember the specific amounts now, but I remember reading about Reed, Peter O'Toole, Richard Burton (four bottles of vodka a day whilst making Where Eagles Dare apparently, according to actor Derren Nesbitt), Richard Harris, and it's frightening what these guys would put away.

This is the book for you:

reply

All four of them! That looks an interesting - and entertaining - read! πŸ‘

reply

Wasn't there at least one time Oliver Reed downed 3 bottles of rum and then *successfully* arm-wrestled 5 British sailors?

reply

Sounds about right! πŸ˜‚

reply

Royal Marines. I believe that was the night he died.

I'll bet you could hear his liver disintegrate.

reply

I read a biography about him years ago. He managed to be pretty reliable professionally somehow despite how he was living. Even if he'd spent the whole night getting hammered with Keith Moon, he'd be ready to go. Some people are just built differently.

I guess that's not too surprising, though. He couldn't have had the long career he had otherwise.

reply

I think his drinking exploits have to be exaggerated. How did his liver handle that much?

reply

Considering WHO we are talking about and the PROFESSION they practice, whatever could lead you to think otherwise?
Celebs are full of themselves and consequently full of shit.

reply

I think a lot of it has to do with genetics. Some people can drink heavily into old age and never have an issue, while others are not so lucky.

reply

Do you drink alcohol?

reply

By Irish standards he was a tea totaler.
