Don't Ever Meet Your Heroes

She may have played a lovable, beautiful, understanding character on Star Trek, but in real life, Marina Sirtis is a horrible bitch. Best not to seek her out unless you're planning on hiring her to do acting work.

I've met her. She wasn't overtly bitchy or anything, but she seemed incredibly self-involved and stuck up, which was a sharp contrast to her character on Next Gen. Eh, actors, what are you gonna do?

reply

Well....there's a saying that's very true, but few people want to hear it.

"Actors are not their characters."

reply

It must have been you. Met her at a convention and she was really nice.

reply

It all depends on your expectations. Actors are not going to be like a waiter at a high end restaurant or a stewardess in first class on an airliner. They are people and prone to be moods good or bad depending on when you encounter them. I met James Doohan one time during the 1980's and he did not grumble about Shatner or anything. Despite being quite personable you could tell he had a burning desire to accomplish more than what he did. It's in the cards for some and not for others. In the end I keep my expectations tamped down and this way I can experience joy if the encounter exceeds those expectations.

I saw her a couple of weeks ago at the Comic-con in Dortmund, and she was in a good mood and very communicative.

What was she selling?

πŸ˜‚Maybe she had later one of this "photos with fans" issue. I do not know. I enjoyed her panel anyway.

reply

Where did you meet her? Was it at a convention or when she was "off duty" at a restaurant or walking down a street? Big difference.

And how was she bitchy? Refused autograph or selfie? Yelled? Ignored? Stuck-up?

reply

Damn, a lot of people on this thread have met her.

reply

SHE MAKES THE ROUNDS AT THE CONVENTIONS...I IMAGINE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE "MET" HER...I ALSO IMAGINE SHE IS FAIRLY BURNT OUT ON REPEATED INTIMATE MOMENTS WITH STRANGERS.

reply

Well, if it's at a convention, she should be nice. If someone bothers her in a restaurant, I can see why she would be bitchy.

reply

ESPECIALLY GIVEN SHE DOES THE CONVENTIONS...SPENDING WHOLE DAYS MEETING AND GREETING...SIGNING AND POSING FOR PICS...I THINK I WOULD BE QUITE FUCK OFF,ASSHOLES TO ADDITIONAL REQUESTS WHILE I WAS "OFF THE CLOCK".

reply

She gets paid for the conventions though. Smile and do your job.

reply

YEAH...OF COURSE...BUT IMAGINE DOING THAT ALL DAY THEN YOU GO OUT TO DINNER AND 12 RANDOMS WANDER OVER...I MIGHT STAB SOMEONE.

reply

If we ever have a MovieChat convention I'll be sure to avoid your booth.

reply

MY BOOTH WILL BE IN THE CENTER OF A GIANT CLOUD OF WEED SMOKE WITH THE ALKALINE TRIO BLASTING...IT WILL BE HARD TO AVOID.

a moviechat convention! Pahahahah just the very idea of it! πŸ˜†

reply

I'm trying to figure out what I should wear.

reply

It depends, if you an attractive fit guy, or a young woman (dressed as Troi), or a young kid, or big family (mom dad kids all dressed up), she probably gonna be nice to you

If you a middle or old age trekkie on your own she probably gonna give you short shrift unless she in a really great mood

I heard shatner is the same (hes great if its attractive girls/women or young kids.. the rest he barely acknowledges)

reply

THEY'RE ALL MIDDLE AGED TREKKIES...IT'S LIKE DAWN OF THE FUCKING DEAD IN RED PAJAMAS.

reply

I can see this. Kind of like high school but all over again. Attractive person she will be nicer and give more time to. Otherwise expect your encounter to last at the most for a few minutes.
