shareI heard him say that NYPD Blue will not survive without him...and it stayed on the air for 10 more seasons. Also I read that at one point he ran into Denis Franz at a restaurant and got into a near physical altercation with him. Other than that I have not really heard anything bad about him and find him to be an okay actor. Did he retire because he can or did he burn too many bridges?
shareI thought he was fantastic in Season 1 of NYPD Blue.
People get off on bashing him, which I'll never understand, but they lose credibility with me very quickly if they can't even acknowledge how great he was in NYPD Blue.
It's a shame he didn't stick around longer on that show. And, it's a shame lightning couldn't strike twice for him elsewhere. I was very disappointed with CSI Miami, because none of the coolness his Kelly character showed-up in his Horatio Cain character....and I blame that on the director as much as anyone. The director controls the way a character comes across.
I honestly feel the character of Kelly on NYPD Blue (and the way Caruso played him) was and is one of the all-time greatest characters in network television history. Played perfectly. Gone too soon.
Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't hate the guy. I liked him on CSI Miami, but have never seen NYPD Blue, but have heard nothing but good things about the show. I also thought he did a decent job in King of New York (playing a cop that is as far removed from his boy scout CSI Miami character Horatio as possible). But I thought his best performance was in the movie Mad Dog and Glory playing Robert De Niro's best friend and absolutely steals the show from actors such as : De Niro, Bill Murray, and Uma Thurman. I was just posting the only bad things I have ever heard about him (which was little) as I have not seen him lately and wondered what happened to him.
shareHe thought he was leading man/DeNiro level material, BUT I think he has a good screen presence. It's just his ego gets in the way of being a solid actor taking on challenging roles and instead he wants to be fawned over like a Diva.
shareTo me, he will always just be the cop who got stabbed in the ass by Rambo.
shareHes perfect in CSI tho i stayed for Emily Protector and Eva larue
shareHe thought he was gonna be a mega movie star.
He gave NYPD Blue writer David Milch a heart attack.
He got cocky. Or his agent fed him a line of bullshit
shareDeja Vu'
I think I might have already done this already.
This man went from one of the most popular and important shows on television to a contract dispute.
I guess he got CSI Miami, which was a score for him though...
