Favorite Performance? (Besides Alfred)
For me, it's Robert Elliott from Dressed to Kill.
shareScrooge from The Muppet Christmas Carol
shareHe's got some great ones....loved him as Cutter in The Prestige. A lesser seen one but also very good was his portrayal of Inspector Frederick Abberline in the Jack the Ripper miniseries.
shareGet Carter
shareAlfred? Alfred wouldn't make my top ten even if that role were in the mix!
Alfie (Alfie)
Eliot (Hannah and Her Sisters)
Scrooge (Muppets Christmas Carol)
Carter (Get Carter)
Jasper (Children of Men)
Milo (Sleuth)
Lawrence (Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels)
Charlie (The Italian Job)
Bromhead (Zulu)
Garth (Secondhand Lions)
And I haven't even seen his famous spy role of Harry Palmer yet!
Don't get me wrong, he does just dandy as Alfred, but he's turned in so many performances far better than the Batler of Wayne Mansion.
Seriously, would anybody select Alfred as the highlight of the great Michael Caine’s long and illustrious career?
The Man Who Would Be King or Get Carter are my favourite Caine films but I think The Quiet American may be his greatest performance.
Nobody would, unless they've only seen him in the Nolan films.
It would have to be the roles that got him into the Nolan films.
Get Carter.
Italian Job.
Alfie.
Jaws 4. (joke)
and maybe Educating Rita
Shiner, Play Dirty and Pulp stand out to me.
