What's his best film?

I think it's "Ed Wood" (1994). It's the one time in his life when he used a true story and stuck to it accurately, but the story was so strange that "EW" ended up being one of his weirdest films. Superbly acted, darkly funny, and oddly involving.

Much better than any of his recent work.

I still need to see some Burton flicks, but I'm going with...

Sleepy Hollow
Dark Shadows

As far as I'm concerned, Batman was dull while Batman Returns was pretty interesting.

Always preferred Batman Returns to Batman. Returns ties with Edward Scissorhands for my top spot.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) is the only Burton film in my top 300. That would be my pick for his best followed by Ed Wood and Big Fish.

I don't like musicals at all.

But Sweeney Todd was amazing. 10/10 for me.

Beetlejuice (1988)

Ed Wood is by far the best thing he’s made. He never tried dipping his toes into this style of auteur cinema again, I think the closest would be Sleepy Hollow. But Ed Wood is a masterpiece.

His two very best movies are Ed Wood and Pee Wee’s Big Adventure imo.

Both movies are about odd guys somehow getting through the day and are very entertaining. Burton seems to thrive on strange character stories.
