She’s THOR?! Why?
Really, do you know why? I just saw this on my screen.
And yes, I know the joke about, “I’m really sore myself.”

Because the studio and/or director, writer etc. wanted her for the part.
Very empowering for young women that a Natalie Portman can be seen doing anything men can do, including fight! Being a superhero isn't only for the likes of Chris Hemsworth.
empowering 🤢.......🤮
everytime you hear someone use that word, you know you have stumbled upon a moron
yes how dare girls have superheroes too. its so moronic. you do realize theres more people in the world than white males right?
im not talking about going woke. im just saying people like and want heroes that look like them to look up to.
imagine you were living in society and there were no action films, no adventure and no superhero movies staring white guys like you. it was all staring a race of 8 foot tall purple amazon women.
you wouldn't relate as much
Normal people want to be like their heroes.
SJW's want their heroes to be like them instead.
Nothing wrong with the thousands of female superheroes out there so why the need to replace an existing one?
Because they can never be satisfied , they are sick sick people
sharethey had a wonder woman movie and may get a black widow soon. WOW 2 out of dozens. yep we are king inundated with female superhero films for sure...
shareThere are multiple wonder woman movies and there are loads of female heroes in all marvel and DC films. Even more in the comic book movies and TV shows that go back decades.
Even with so many, what is wrong with making new ones? Is the list full so now they need to just rebrand older ones or something?
im agreeing with you. and to be fair I forgot the animated ones which I love. Sorry I was talking live action though and making fun of people claiming "we can never be satisfied no matter how many female movies are made"
yet thee is wonder woman 1 and two and that's it...
The animated films do tend to be better.
shareSo there needs to be a male wonder woman. It would be empowering for men, lol.
share"yes how dare girls have superheroes too. its so moronic. you do realize theres more people in the world than white males right

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who says i am white you racist moron!......typical left wing SJW, first thing they do is show how racist they are by assuming race and gender of anyone that disagrees with them.
take note everybody, this is how they are.
and which country are you talking about fool, others countries around the world are free to make their own movies, where they hero can be black, brown, yellow and red.
It just so happens that in America and Europe most people are still white, comprende!?
Also, Thor is male ffs
because you are. and we know it. its why you rage and get triggered by a female superhero.
lol the thin guy of racism is slipping too. it only took one commenting of me saying women should have superheroes too fr the nativism an thinly veiled racism to come out
you know the skin color of other posters? You truly are a low IQ individual.
"lol the thin guy of racism is slipping too. it only took one commenting of me saying women should have superheroes too fr the nativism an thinly veiled racism to come out"
Could you at least try to make sense. And learn to spell as well.
And talking about racism in a thread about a white actor, how do one even do that, wow you truly are demented.
so you arent white? id bet everything I own on it. stick to Parker its where you belong
shareI consider it more empowering to develop original stories on your own instead of invading a man's space.
shareBecause of Stephanie Hunt being Catwoman.

Because there's actually a storyline where Jane Foster becomes Thor. I didn't expect her to return to the MCU after issues she had with Marvel after The Dark World. If they were going to pass the mantle to anyone I honestly expected it to be Valkyrie. I don't mind Jane Foster as a character, but she's neither here nor there for me. Maybe this will turn it around though.
shareThat storyline was just temporary and ended with Jane's death. You think that will happen here as well?
shareIf it happens it definitely won't happen in this movie, but I doubt it'll happen at all since it seems they're making a push for strong female heroes. Not that it really bothers me to be honest.

If they were going to reach back to the comics for a storyline, they should have done the Walt Simonson series with Beta Ray Bill.
Of course, it's too late for that now because that series included Ragnarok, which they've already done as a comedic parody.
The impact of someone other than Thor wielding Mjolnir is also gone since three others have already done it.
I'd love to see Beta Ray Bill too to be honest. On the Grandmaster's tower in Ragnarok there was a sculpture of his head.
I feel people need to realize the MCU isn't the Marvel 616 universe. It's just a different universe entirely within Marvel's continuity. That's why it may barrow elements from already existing stories, but why it's not a carbon copy.
Vision, Cap, and Thor right? I still think it could have an impact depending on how they develop Foster as a character. I mean, if Thor was worthy there's no way Cap wasn't. As for Vision, he lifted it, but I wouldn't necessarily say he wielded it since he never used it to possess the power of Thor. If he had though, I don't see why he wouldn't be worthy either.
Ragnarok was really an adaptation of Planet Hulk. The Ragnarok storyline is secondary, but needed to be done that way because of the licensing limitations with Hulk.
shareGod i hate that comic, just another woke comic that failed and Marvel just will not learn.
I never understood how she could be Thor. Thor is his name, given to him by his parents at birth not a mantle that can be passed.
She could have been given the power of a Norse God and named something else. The fact she was called Thor was just another cheap gender swap no matter how they wrote the comic, being temporary or not.
MCU is in full on woke mode now.
> Thor is his name, given to him by his parents at birth not a mantle that can be passed.
In the first Thor movie Odin took Thor’s power from Thor and later restored it, so I suppose it stands to reason that that a power transference is possible. But I agree with you that it’s dumb to call anyone else Thor just because they wield his power.
That's the real weirdness. Transference of power makes sense, transference of mantle makes sense, but this would be like somebody else getting the Black Panther suit and being called T'Challa.
Nobody minds when Sam gets to be Captain America because that makes sense. One dude retires, he's done with it, so here you go. It works. Thor is a woman now is just...reaching.
I’m guessing the reason is that few would buy a comic or see see a movie headlining “Jane Foster”. The character lacks name recognition and cache.
shareSo give her a different name. They could select another deity from the Norse pantheon. Astrape and Bronte, for another tack, are thunder and lightning goddesses from the Greek pantheon. Or just name it "Thunder Goddess". That's pretty badass and metal; that could bring in buyers.
Name the *comic* "The Mantel of THOR", but the character isn't Thor.
John Irons is called "Steel" not Superman or Clark Kent.
Good suggestions. With so much money at stake, I would be surprised if Disney’s marketing department didn’t field test alternatives.
shareWell, I'm not sure what's up with the film itself. Is Portman actually referred to as "Thor" in the film? Or is it just titled Thor: Love and Thunder? Because if it's a sequel/spinoff of the Thor franchise, that title makes sense to me. It's only if her character is Thor, that would be strange.
shareI assume and hope the latter (title only).
shareAnd that would work. Although, really, I've gotten a bit bored by the MCU for ages (of Ultron) now, and I'm not sure anything would entice me to come out. If the trailers looked great and original for once instead of just same-old-same-old I might check it out, but I've got no interest.
With Endgame I literally was just slightly curious who lived and who died, so I just looked it up online and went, "Oh, neat," and that was it.
Same. It will be interesting to see if Disney can sustain fan interest in the MCU as they launch movies based on lesser-known superheroes and reboot their blue chip franchises with new actors. I definitely think they risk audience burnout from overexposure. George Lucas was wise to spread out his Star Wars trilogies. Disney seems incapable of showing such patience.
Going forward I will probably only watch superhero movies that receive near-universal acclaim. The last one I saw was “Joker” which I found entertaining though I thought it failed to live up to the hype.
I'm not sure. There might be enough brand name recognition with MCU to keep momentum. It also might kinda be like a lot of brand names where the familiarity just floats it. "Oh, we're going to see the latest Pixar movie. Why? It's the latest Pixar movie." Okay, Pixar has a *really* strong track record, but there are plenty of examples of people just buying what they recognize.
The superhero movies I've dug on the most lately are Logan and, yeah, Joker. Both of those brought something original to the formula. Logan is my favourite superhero flick, Joker is a top-five contender; it lived up for me, but that's me. I also liked the central characters of Deadpool and Venom (well...central two characters in the latter), and they felt fresh, but they were still stuck into formulaic films and Venom was really only entertaining for that relationship between Eddie and the big guy.
👍
shareGiven Disney now owns Marvel you can expect the wokeness to reach a fevered pitch where no normal comic fan will ever piss money away on their product, it will only be watchable by the woke comic fans... of course the irony is the woke folk aren't comic fans so expect empty theaters coming to theater near you.
shareI hope it won't be like Captain Marvel, All men are the bad guys unless your black or Jewish... I mean a Skrull.
it just has to be better than Thor Dark World.
The storyline in the comic was not good. It had decent elements but was a terrible read. I can't believe they chose it for a movie. Fools.
Portman is not a very good actress. Medium weight. I was fine with her being gone from the MCU.
I look forward to the new Dr Strange and What If tv show. The rest of the announcements were bland to me.
I asked myself the same question. Natalie Portman never seemed to really enjoy being part of those films, especially when she turned into a total brat over not having her fave director working with her on "The Dark World." They also didn't really utilize Jane's character very well in these movies, not even in the GOOD Thor movies. I'm guessing she just wants the money and attention. I can't see any other reason why she would associate herself with any Thor films yet again.
shareThor is a given name for the God of Thunder. Transposing the name to a woman is like renaming Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Dumb. Misguided. Addlepated. Lowest-common-denominator trailer park cretin white trash stupid. Besides, we all know that the Goddess of Thunder is named Lisa Ann.
Crikey. Name Lisa Ann Thunder Goddess and put her in a Thor film, and, cha-ching!
Not like it’s been done already, or anything.
It does feel like forced PC and virtue signaling to feminazis, doesn't it?
