Hardly in a many great films

One of the most famous stars yet has a really average filmography

reply

JFK alone compensates all the possible mediocrity in his filmography.

reply

you mean waterworld surely?

reply

He has been in some of the most memorable movies, at least for me.

Robin Hood, Field of Dreams, Dances With Wolves, JFK, and The Untouchables are all pretty damn good

The Highwaymen is a really interesting take on the Bonnie and Clyde story. Wyatt Earp, while no Tombstone, is a solid western in its own right. Thirteen Days is an interesting film on the Cuban Missile Crisis that never got the attention it deserved.

If anything, his filmography is underrated.

reply

Agreed. He's been in many movies that I love and consider good or great. Dances With Wolves, Robin Hood, The Untouchables, A Perfect World, Upside Of Anger, Waterworld, Let Him Go.

reply

I saw A Perfect World for the first time a couple of years ago. That's an interesting film that I knew nothing about until I saw it.

reply

That's a great movie

reply

That was the end of his great run of movies imo from 87-93. Shows how hard it is to make a great movie that he was never able to make one that great ever again.

reply

Yeah, looking at his filmography it is at least the end of a good run of quality films, as the waters got kind of choppy after that.

Still, I'm not sure I'd say that he never made another film as good as A Perfect World. I would, at the very least, say that Open Range is on the same level. It's unfortunate how it's basically a forgotten western that never did get the credit it deserved.

reply

"Robin Hood" is pure junk. "Field of Dreams" is phony spirituality for people who think baseball is deep. "Dances with Wolves" is a bloated truckload of pretentious rubbish. The only Costner movie I really like is "Open Range".

reply

Not among my favourite actors, but he's been in some really good films

reply

And those really great films were . . . ?

Do not even think to name Waterworld, a stink bomb on the order of Ishtar.

Nor name Field of Dreams. The American past-time is terminally boring, with an average fan age of 57 years old. Yawn. Snooze. Game long-since over.

reply

The Untouchables, Dances with the wolves, Open range, Silverado was ok. Plus, people say tha Yellostone is good.

reply

Yellowstone is a solid western soap opera.

reply

JFK is one the best movies of the 90's. Regardless of do you believe the conspiracy or not.

reply

lol I guess it depends on what kind of movies you like. If you mean he doesn't have many Godfathers under his belt, sure I guess.

reply

Has, what I consider to be, the best answer to "What do you believe in?" in movie history.
