Good actor or not?
I can't tell. Sometimes decent and sometimes mediocre.
shareSolid. Funny thing is, I have more time for him now than when he was a major movie star. He's settled into the role of character actor with gravitas quite nicely. I'd definitely say good actor, even if some of his films are less than mediocre.
shareMaybe you just got annoyed seeing him all the time. Like he's fine in small doses.
shareGood actor.
shareI'd say mediocre. I mean his fake southern accent (JFK-the fake conspiracy film) and fake Boston one (13 Days-- an okay one about the Cuban Missile Crisis) are pretty pathetic. He hasn't been in many good films, even though he won the Oscar for that boring one Dances with Wolves. Once he stooped to Waterworld it was all over for him as a serious actor.
shareHe just can't seem to lose that accent.
shareA PERFECT WORLD,MR BROOKS,OPEN RANGE,TIN CUP...HE NAILS IT AS CLARK'S DAD IN THE MEDIOCRE SUPERMAN FLICKS...I THINK HE HAS STRONG PERFORMANCES IN HIM...HE JUST NEEDS THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES...A LOT OF ACTORS LIKE THAT.
shareHe's a good actor in my opinion. He knows how to play the role given to him. There are bad actors out there who keep getting roles. He's not one of them.
shareHe can be great. I had seen him in Dances With Wolves and Robin Hood, both fine films I felt he was good, little on the boring side. Then I watched Silverado and I didn't even recognize him at first, his performance was no energetic. I think his best performance is in No Way Out. He is fine in JFK. I also like Thirteen Days though why he even attempted such a bad accent is a mystery. No need for it.
shareYeah, he was great in No Way Out.
share"Robin Hood" a fine film. Thanks for giving me my first laugh of the day.
shareGOOD...SOMETIMES GREAT...NEVER BAD.
shareDunno, but without him there would be no dances with wolves - he first sheltered and then forced his friend to complete the script - and he directed it.
As far as his acting skills go - he's got limits. We all recall some actors do a role which doesn't fit their usual profile - al pacino, dustin hoffman, etc, but.... I haven't seen them nail too many other interesting roles since. Even Dustin Hoffman himself said that at the end of the day, all actors basically play themselves placed in different environments.
