Better director than George Lucas?
I'm leaning towards Cameron but he definitely tapered off after 1991's T2.

shareCameron is better. The 2 Terminator movies and Aliens are classics, and the rest are still pretty good, apart from Piranha II. Star Wars is Lucas's only classic, but like others have said Lucas has more talent in other fields.
Cameron is who you go to if you want a successful sequel, although he does look past his best now. All these Avatar sequels make me think he's lost the plot a little bit.
JUST TO CLARIFY FOR EVERYONE...LUCAS DIRECTED...THX 1138,AMERICAN GRAFFITI AND THE THREE STAR WARS PREQUELS....THATS IT...AMERICAN GRAFFITI IS HIS ONLY CREDIT THAT I THINK IS A QUALITY FILM.
shareVery similar in that they're both mostly technologists who employ trite stories.
But I'd go with Lucas for American Graffiti alone.
Yes, but Lucas is highly overrated and only three good movies, so the bar was not set very high.
shareThe first Terminator movie is pretty damn good and pretty exciting in a way I don't think Lucas could match.
