Why Martial Arts Movies Stopped Being Popular In Hollywood After Bruce Lee

Hollywood seemed to give up on investing in martial arts movies after Bruce Lee's heyday, but what were the justifications for this odd choice?

I would go for the obvious answer, although it's an oversimplification.

The high concept movies came into fashion.. first Jaws.. then Star Wars, ET, and 80s and 90s "Blockbusters" which remade the entire industry.

Let's not forget Westerns died out at the same time in the late 70s.
The movie industry changed... more into an industry. As happens with anything, when they make more money and it becomes an industry the quality of the products declines, inevitably. We've all seen it in the automobile industry to name one.

As for the movie studios... They stopped taking risks. It's as simple as that.

A LOT of action movie fights today use elements of martial arts. Look at "John Wick" and almost any Jason Statham film.

Exactly. These days every 'action' movie is expected to include some martial arts at some point. What we don't see so much of now is actual martial arts stars, as in stars who are martial artists first and foremost and who came into movie acting from that world. What we tend to get is actors who 'also do martial arts.' Even Statham comes into this category (as good as he seems to be).
