Knowing when someone with one post is legit

So how are we supposed to know when someone comes on the board with one post that they're legit? What are qualities that set apart a real new poster from a fake?

I'll start:
1. They keep coming back and posting more

reply

If they're 1st post is about Trump, then it's pretty much a fake poster who signed on with one thing in mind and that's not posting about movies

reply

Agreed

reply

And if they proclaim "Hi I'm new here!" they're probably a sock.

reply

Hands up all those that checked their first post when they read this πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ€£

reply

My first post I rated Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" 7/10.

reply

β€˜What was your first post in GD?’ would make for an interesting thread.

reply

I just did it, but overall, not just GD.

reply

is it easy to dig out , or do i have to scroll through 16k pages ?

{edit}

yes it is
apparently my first post was 5 years ago about "Gone with the Wind" being biggest gross of all time , and not Titanic or whatever

reply

Yay! You found out how to do it 🎈

reply

πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

And sure enough, I did proclaim that I was new.

reply

reply

Sometimes, but not always.

Sometimes they're just dorks like me who really are new and feel a need, perhaps in their nervousness, to say it. 😏

reply

Okay, you proved me wrong. But yeah, that's dorky.

Saved it.

2. They don’t include a link on their first post.

reply

Good one! And of course I would never click on a link from someone with one post. Heck, even now I rarely click on links unless they're YouTube or a poster I really trust.

reply

That's an excellent one. One link was to an illicit site and a few others to their promotions.

reply

3. They don’t try to sell you something.

reply

Yes that's a telltale sign of a fake.

reply

4. Their very first post isn't asking explicit questions about sex or pooping.

reply

Ha ha!

reply

They keep coming back and posting more

But isn't that what we have all done since our first post?

reply

Yes, but I see many people come here one time and post something suspicious looking and then I never see their usernames again. That's the kind of person I'm talking about here.

reply

Oh, you mean drive-by posters lol Yes, I agree.

reply

Yes. I started to write trolls, but trolls are different than drive-bys. πŸ˜‚

reply

5. They normally don’t have an offensive username.

reply

A legitimate poster should emerge into the world of our boards fully-formed with at least 500 posts to their name at the moment of their creation.

reply

Now you're just talking about hocus pocus.

reply

How about over 500 posts in 3 weeks?

reply

You'd have to post a lot but it's doable, and could be a good thing if you're adding legitimate content. Did you have that many after 3 weeks?

By the way you're the only new poster who has arrived here since I have that I can think of who posts regularly. I'm glad you're here.

reply

My first post says "a month ago" and I'm on 650 now, not sure what range of days a month is before it will say 2 months and not exactly sure when I signed up, but 500 in 3 weeks sounds about right.

Edit, found it, registered dec 12.

reply

I think as long as someone genuinely enjoys posting and is adding legitimate content (which we are), prolific posters like ourselves can be helpful to the life of a message board.

Besides if we weren't both here, my cat wouldn't currently be betrothed to an unknown gender Italian lizard.

reply

πŸ˜‚ I really hope it will be there this spring again and I can take a photo.
