Your Christmas tree specifications

If you put up a Christmas tree I would like to hear your responses to the following questions, please.

1. Do you enjoy putting ornaments on your Christmas tree?

Me: Growing up I loved decorating the Christmas tree. These days it becomes tedious due to having an attention span of a gnat. Thankfully Mr. fourlemons still loves putting ornaments on the tree or ours would probably be bare.

2. Do you prefer white lights or multicolored lights on your tree?

Me: White these days, although I grew up with multicolored lights and that is what my parents still have. Also, our current tree is pre-lit. Nothing brings a couple closer to divorce than trying to put Christmas lights on a tree.

3. Yes or no to tinsel?

Me: No, though I'm not against it. We used tinsel a few times growing up.

4. Yes or no to strings of popcorn or beads?

Me: No, though I think they can be pretty. I'm just too lazy to do it.

5. Is your tree real or artificial?

Me: Artificial unfortunately. Real trees make my allergies go nuts. I used to love going to pick out a Christmas tree until I realized it was the tree making me sick every Christmas.

reply

1. No. This is the sole reason that I had kids.

2. White power! Ooh, this could get me cancelled!!

3. God No, too much mess! You’re still sweeping tinsel up on The 4th Of July.

4. Beads or ribbons yes.

5. One pre-lit artificial tree and one real one which we usually cut down at the local tree farms. I’m still sweeping up stray pine needles every 4th Of July but my wife insists…

reply

Unfortunately, my kids inherited my attention span when it comes to tree decorating. 😂

Beads and ribbons sound pretty. Maybe one day I'll get a little more inspired with my tree decorating. We do have four of the same Big Bird ornaments, though, that we've somehow amassed over the years. We're classy over here in fourlemons land. 😂

And one of each kind of tree sounds nice. The best of both worlds. 😊

reply

I use the little tree my ex mother-in-law sends me every year. It's a small potted tree already decorated with lights very cute😀

reply

That sounds very nice, and also nice that y'all still have that connection. 🎄💚

1. Do you enjoy putting ornaments on your Christmas tree?

Yes I do :) In fact, one of the things I've enjoyed about most of our ornaments are the stories and memories behind them. We keep a stock of colorful, metallic Christmas ball ornaments and candy canes, but the real beauties are the unique ornaments that don't have duplicates, or are part of a small set. There are a few ornaments that are personally mine that I keep in my room the rest of the year, just so they don't get lost or broken in the garage (we've moved a lot and subsequently "lost" many ornaments over the years to the "box black holes" known as our basements or garages).

2. Do you prefer white lights or multicolored lights on your tree?

Multicolored. White lights are so boring. We always use multi-colored lights that can be programmed to do different patterns, based on the control box on the cord. Dad has also introduced me to bubble lights, which I think are both retro and fun to watch, so sometimes we have put a string of those on the tree too. Only difficult part is making sure they're pointing upright so the bubbles go up.

3. Yes or no to tinsel?

Yes. I love tinsel. I'll even put tinsel around the house and sometimes on outdoor things like porch pillars or porch railings.

4. Yes or no to strings of popcorn or beads?

No. Never had a use for those, and I hear trying to make cranberry bead garlands are a pain in the butt.

5. Is your tree real or artificial?

I've been raised to use artificial trees because they're far less of a hassle than real ones, make less of a mess, you only have to buy them once, and you can use them over and over again. Plus, no sap, no pine needles on the floor, and no having to deal with water needs of the tree.

reply

My parents have one of those multicolored light sets with a box on the cord that can control different patterns, too. Their lights can also play music. 🎶

reply

That's so cool! :D We've had fun trinkets that could make Christmas music too, but like many things, were "lost" to the box labyrinth in storage.

Like years ago, we had these cute, dancing hamsters that could sing. Or we had a rotating Santa's Workshop music box. We also played Christmas music CD's in the past.

reply

1. Sometimes. I do realize it can be tedious. But we haven't had a Christmas Tree in a while.

2. Multicolored Lights

3. Yes

4. Probably not.

5. Artificial. We have used a real tree before, though.

reply

I think if it weren't for the fact that my boys come home for the holidays there might be years I did not put up a tree. My favorite part of Christmas decorating is the mantle and hanging up the stockings.

1. Do you enjoy putting ornaments on your Christmas tree?

Yes, but I don't like messing around with lights, which always seen to go out and have to be replaced.

2. Do you prefer white lights or multicolored lights on your tree?

I have multiple trees,(4), most have white lights, but I have a small tree decorated only with multi colored lights that I keep in the game room where my cats stay because they will destroy anything else. So far this year they have only knocked it over once.

3. Yes or no to tinsel?

No to tinsel.

4. Yes or no to strings of popcorn or beads?

I have a pencil tree in my kitchen that is decorated with popcorn and antique cookie cutters that belonged to my grandmother.

5. Is your tree real or artificial?

All are artificial and the biggest which is 7 feet tall is storred in a large tree bag. Every year the branches have to be fluffed out and rearranged - I really don't enjoy doing that. I love real trees but I can't handle then and as previously mentioned, I hate putting lights on.

reply

Yes Christmas lights used to be the single most difficult part of Christmas decorating. Whoever came up with the idea of pre-lit trees had one of the best ideas in history.

That's nice that you have a Christmas tree decorated with items that belonged to your grandmother.

reply

1. Yes, very much
2. Yes to both, lights are lights
3. Yes to tinsel, tinsel is part of the smell of Christmas for me
4. No to popcorn, yes to beads, just to avoid ants
5. Artificial, knew a guy who's real tree was full of spiders (I'm guessing it wasn't processed properly with pesticides?), so once he had all the lights turned on, all you saw were the shadows of spiders reflected on the wall behind it, and that's not for me.

reply

Oh my! That's the first time I've heard a story about a Christmas tree full of spiders. Sounds more like Halloween! 😁
