CLOSED***BAKERS DOZEN*** Celebrities who served in the military/armed forces

I'm sure this has probably been done before, but we should be able to do this one again. Tomorrow is Veterans Day here in the USA...I thought it would be a nice topic to list some celebrities who served in the military/armed forces (does not have to be USA). Can be alive or dead, doesn't necessarily have to be wartime service...here we go:

1) Toy Caldwell (guitarist/singer for The Marshall Tucker Band) - served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Very well done, everyone! I really enjoyed seeing all of your choices! nyctc7 is up next!

reply

A good and timely topic!

reply

Thank you! I really enjoyed seeing all the choices, yours included! FYI, I know Rob Riggle from two things...he is a co-host for a miniature golf TV show called "Holey Moley" that aired on ABC (not sure if it still airs or not... haven't seen it in awhile) and he was also in "Dumb And Dumber To" with Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey. I think he was the youngest one mentioned here... he's 54, so a year younger than I am.

reply

Yeah, it was interesting enough for me to begin with that he was a former Marine Colonel who went on to do comedy in movies and TV. The episode I mentioned here highlighted that he was preparing for a serious role as an 1800s mountain man.

reply

Basil Rathbone, who served as an Intelligence Officer in WWI was no joke with the sword. He was the two-time British Army Fencing Champion.

reply

Awesome! I've heard of Basil Rathbone, but don't know much about him. Fencing would be one tough sport to compete in, I would think... I've watched it during the Olympics coverage and those men and women are usually drenched in sweat when they're done competing.

reply

My dad thought of him as the definitive Sherlock Holmes.

reply

As do I, and Nigel Bruce as the definitive Watson.

In one of the SH films, Bruce sings - he had a beautiful baritone voice :

Marvin dropped his Corporal Rank and rating as quartermaster to go into combat as a private. He reconnoitered beachheads prior to invasions. It didn't get much more hazardous.
