Somebody's been done wrong song

Is there really a better one than this?

Show me.

reply

The radio station I occasionally listen to plays the shit out of this song

reply

Maybe somebody done did that DJ wrong.

reply

Can't get done wrong any more than this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4GMUlCBgd0

reply

Yep. I'm not very familiar with Reba's music, though I have heard of this song, but after reading the lyrics I'm inclined to agree with you. That is indeed a got done wrong song.

reply

OK, I can't help it...I have to post here also! πŸ˜ƒ

I just posted this one to Paulette Carlson's page a few days ago (I listened to quite a bit of country music in the 1980s). IMO, this is how you write and perform "another somebody done somebody wrong song" (with a nod to the late B.J. Thomas...RIP). I really love this song to this day... Paulette Carlson did a great job singing it and I love the guitar playing in this song:

I was not familiar with her but she has a beautiful, clear voice. I've only been beginning my country music education within the last 10 years. My husband and grown sons love it, and little by little I've been learning. I'll tell you, country songs have some of the best lyrics to rip your heart out.

And I'm glad you gave a nod to BJ Thomas. This thread wouldn't have been complete without him. πŸ˜‰

reply

I once heard country described as, "crying in your beer" music. 😁

reply

Yeah I remember that one. "JLP" was huge. Your track was huge.

Much speculation as to the whom the YOU was.

I read it was the guy on the show with John Stamos and the Olsen Twins (can't remember the name of it off the top of my head).

Yeah, she really lays into him. I don't know if I have anything to top it. Let me wake up a bit and see what pops into my head.

Aaahh, it just came to me "FUll House" I believe was the name of the show.

reply

Yes, it is supposedly aimed at Dave Coulier from Full House. It always seemed a little funny to me that such rage was aimed at a guy who played such a goofy character.

reply

Oh yeah, that's right, the blonde haired guy - yeah I didn't know his name, thank you.

Yeah rumor has it he is the YOU.

Yeah, Im not female, but he doesn't look to be someone that would get a girl all that upset, LOL.

Hey, still cant top YOK yet. Im about to vacuum my first floor, maybe something will hit me.

Stay tuned....

reply

Ok, two tracks popped into my head. But in fact, neither comes close to matching the intensity of Alanis.

First one is kind of a joke.....

This next one, this is a girl moving on, letting her former know she is doing fine....

But she's certainly not as vicious as Alanis.

I'm glad you mentioned Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive. That's another one that I had thought would go nicely in this thread. Like I said elsewhere, break-ups are a grieving process and I think Gloria's song nicely represents the final step of moving forward, in her case with strength and as a fighter. πŸ’ͺ

reply

Right, exactly. Someone leaves her high and dry, expecting her to fall apart. Instead, she has some difficulty at first, but ultimately "survives" and makes a good life for herself. Simultaneously proving to herself she was strong enough to do it.

Yeah, its a good song for this thread, but not nearly as harsh as Alanis.

ALanis is in fact strong enough to go on alone, she just wants to stick it to the man that took off.

reply

Yes, and she did a darn good job of it. 😁

reply

You know I wonder, if in fact YOK is about Dave COulier - I wonder how he really took it.

Did he care that Alanis was "scratching her nails on someone else's back"?

Or, maybe he took pride that he caused such strong feelings in her.

This is of course assuming he is the source of the song.

You know, its possible he wasn't. I'd gather he is probably quite a bit older than Alanis. She'd have been like 19 when she wrote it.

reply

I'm pretty sure I read an interview a while back and he seemed to take it in stride. It could be both a source of embarrassment and pride for him. 😏 I think she moved on and is happy now, which probably helps.

reply

OMG I just checked it. He shouldn't have been with her at all.

He's 15 years older than her. She'd have been a baby while they were involved.

Pretty gross if you ask me.

I mean gross on his part, a fully fledged adult male messing around with a teenager.

reply

I didn't actually realize there was a big age difference. According to a Google search she was 18 and he was 33.

reply

Right, and its not like, say....

He's 48 and shes 33. Shes a baby when they were romantically involved. It's gross. Of course she'd be all up in arms afterwards.

If she was also a fully fledged adult and he took off, she'd have been over it the next day.

But of course then again, we wouldn't have the great song we have.

reply

Yes, I'm sure being so young contributed to the depth of the heartbreak. At that age, such things do tend to have an "it's the end of the world" feel.

reply

Indeed. Ok 4L - heading out. Nice chatting with you as always.

Perhaps I'll catch up with you again later tonight while I'm working out.

Till then....

reply

This is what popped into my head https://youtu.be/dtv4Hd7GZVA?si=IijQeGDX03ooC0Vp grew up with this one.

reply

Yes! Absolutely. That song was actually playing in my head as I wrote the OP. 😊 It's definitely a kinder, gentler "been done wrong song".
