Watching "Christine" for the first time ever right now

shareIncluding what y'all would rank it out of 10.
shareI just started it based on your recommendation. I read the novel a long time ago and have seen the film several times. I think it’s one of the best King movie adaptations and it’s directed by John Carpenter! That’s extra points right there👍
shareWe just finished it and it was GREAT! I've decided to give it an 8/10. Mr. Fourlemons was saying the same thing, that it's one of the best King movie adaptations he's ever seen and he's read a lot of Stephen King books. I'm glad we watched it!
We're going to watch one scary movie each night between now and Halloween and I'll try to remember to post each evening which one it is.
Yes, please do that, Cheers🍻
I’ll try to chime in😄
That would be great! We'll watch our movie early enough that it won't interfere with the Moviechat MovieClub movie. Sometimes I think I would like to join in with that but I start getting sleepy around 8:30 and I'm not worth squat after 9:00. 😏
shareOne thing we noted is that it's not really gory. Which proves it doesn't have to be gory if you have good storytelling.
shareI’m loving it all over again!
Used cars were so dirt cheap when I was a kid that I bought a 1967 Mustang from gas pumping and lawn mowing money before I even had a license, no kidding!
Used cars now will bust your bank!
Times have changed indeed. Mr. Fourlemons' first car was a 1962 Buick LeSabre that he paid $100 for in 1989.
shareWow, nice car!
I got my Ford from a Coke addict that needed fast money. He wanted $1,500 but I showed up with $1,300 and had to fight the junkie and his pal for the pink slip. I won😬
Mr. fourlemons bought his from a 94-year-old who was parting with his car because the state would not renew his driver's license. My husband used to mow his yard which is how he learned about the car.
Glad you made it through your transaction unscathed! 😬
Oh yeah, I made those dopes sign the papers right then and there. I also lost my gas pump and oil change job, my boss’s son was one of the guys I roughed up😄
shareI also had a Buick LeSabre at one time, can't remember what year it was. Again, another big, heavy car, great at plowing through snow. 😁 I've read a lot of Stephen King also. Did you know he pitched the Carrie manuscript in the wastebasket? His wife retrieved and persuaded him to try to have it published. The rest is history, as they say.
shareMy husband says that he had heard that story but I had not. Thank goodness she got it out of the waste basket! We were talking about the other Stephen King movies we've seen, and I've seen Carrie. I would probably rate it a 9 out of 10.
shareYeah, it's the story that launched his career. I remember the impact it made when it came on the scene, almost like Jaws. I watched a remake of it just recently, matter of fact.
I think he was a high school English teacher at the time he wrote it, living in a trailer, kind of struggling to get by. He's definitely got a powerful imagination and is especially good at creating very real and believable characters.
Sounds like you enjoyed it and I’m hesitant to rain on your parade, but for me it sits towards the bottom of Stephen King film adaptations. I think the acting was weak, the pacing all over the place and the general aesthetic painfully dated now.
It gets a 4/10 from me but you get a 9/10 for crating some good film discussion here :)
That's okay. I still think you're awesome. 😊
I agree that it is dated but since I grew up during that time period I don't mind. I love me some nostalgia.
Maybe you'll like the movie we watch tomorrow night which I guess will be morning for you.
I hope so, I’ll be watching for it 🤗
I meant it though, some decent film discussion is always nice to see here. To that, here’s my ranking of all the King adaptations I’ve seen:
1. The Shining
2. Carrie (original)
3. The Dead Zone
4. Stand By Me
5. Misery
6. It - chapter 1
7. Doctor Sleep
8. The Shawshank Redemption
9. Dolores Claiborne
10. Firestarter (original)
11. The Green Mile
12. It - chapter 2
13. Cujo
14. Christine
15. Cat’s Eye
16. Carrie (remake)
I've only seen 9 out of those 16 so it would be hard for me to do a ranking, but I agree that The Shining is far and away #1. It's my favorite horror movie and my #2 favorite movie- any genre- of all time. That's what we'll be watching Halloween night (after The Rocky Horror Picture Show). Those are locked in on Halloween night at my house for eternity.
shareLove it! Since Halloween isn’t much of a big deal down here I don’t have a go-to movie for the season, but this year you’ve inspired me to dust off my Shining dvd and rewatch it on Thursday. It’s been a good minute since I last saw it, so something to look forward to.
And any fan of Rocky Horror is a friend of mine! Can you believe that movie flopped on its original release? I guess sometimes it takes a while for the world to wake up to brilliance. I do hope they never remake it, some things are better left untampered with.
Well I'll be posting while we're watching The Shining on Thursday although I guess you might want to wait until the evening time to watch it at your house. That might be a hard movie to start the day with. 😂
I think the Rocky Horror Picture Show is something that takes a while for most people to get hooked on. The first time I saw it I didn't like it and I wondered what the heck I had just seen. 😂But yet I couldn't stop thinking about it. Kind of like a freak show at the fair. You want to go back and look at it one more time. Then I watched it over and over and over again and now I love it.
1958 Plymouth Fury!
I had to look that up.
Sheesh, cars are so dumb looking nowadays, my Chevy is totally boring.
