Grey or Navy blue sweater?

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

It's an eye sore.

Signed, million man.

reply

Looks like an intern's uniform for the Wet Bandits.

reply

The coat looks very nice as do the shoes.

reply

Both look nice. Grey goes better with the shoes.

I wouldn't usually wear gloves that color, but if they're warm, go for it.

reply

Thanks. I'm off to New York City in a couple of weeks, so I want to dress appropriately for the winter. Grey has better contrast for sure. I think grey has more casual feel to it; whereas, the navy blue makes it seem more "formal".

Hey, stop by Virginia after so we can go drinking.

reply

Is that a self-portrait? You look good man. Hope you have a great time. Might be a little too heavy for fall in NYC but layers work because you can take stuff off if it’s too warm.

reply

Thanks. Yep, it's me. Can't wait to go to NYC. My first time.

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

Oh god don't wear that in NYC at least.

Signed, million man

reply

They'll point and laugh?

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

Best case scenario

Signed, million man.

reply

That’s exactly how I dress whenever I rob a bank.

reply

Now that was funny!

reply

Haha. I think it's the hat.

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

Yep!
A stupid hat confuses everybody.

reply

I don’t like the colour of the gloves, sorry.

reply

Dark brown would be better?

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

Black would be perfect - it goes with everything.

reply

I was thinking the same thing. The gloves clash here. Black would be the choice.

reply

I thought black and navy blue were a no-no.

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

Blue and green should never be seen.

reply

I'd recommend navy, charcoal gray, or black gloves. Everything else is fine. You look like you're visiting the Pacific Northwest in the wintertime.

reply

I think I'll change the hat too. It makes me look like a robber. Or better yet wear no hat.

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

The sock hat and long coat evoke images of people who live in the Seattle and Portland, Oregon areas. It's not a bad thing, it's just, that look is very popular in that part of the US during the cold seasons. If you really want to invoke the robber look, wear a ski mask (like the kind that looks like a knit hat, but with holes for the eyes and mouth), fingerless gloves, a black hoodie, and torn black jeans.

reply

A knit cap (aka ski cap) is for really cold weather, or chilly weather with wind so strong it would blow a hat right off one's head. In cool/cold weather that doesn't rise to that level, a wool hat such as a fedora, an outback hat, or a flat cap (Irish cap) are popular and look very nice..

reply

Does NYC get really cold in late November and early December?

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

My weather memory isn't so great. I once told some out-of-State friends who were making their first trip to NYC that the first week in September wouldn't be too hot and it ended up being quite hot and humid.

reply

I see you in a flat cap

What colour should I get?

Something like this? Link: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09G2D2LWS/ref=sw_img_1?smid=A1ZMA0DC3P92RE&psc=1

reply

I saw this after I posted above, yes, dark grey looks very smart.

reply

Thanks. Navy blue or black or grey gloves then?

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

Black gloves are the most versatile (agree with AndyKing). If i were to buy blue/brown/grey gloves they would be dark of that color.

reply

What about a scarf? Or don't even bother?

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

Only necessary on very cold days IMO.
It sounds to me like you need to find a really good men's store, or department store with a really good men's section. It's their job to advise you on what goes with what.

Well done!

Brown pants or blue jeans would work as well. And yes, blue and green can go together:

I think I prefer the green pants in your side-by-side.

reply

Thanks. It seems switching to turtleneck sweater really elevated the look. One thing, would dark brown gloves have been better to match the shoes more?

Yes, I have brown Docker pants which I need to get tailored because it looks too wide. I'm trying to move away from blue jeans to be honest.

--Michael D. Clarke

reply

There comes a point where you don't want to overthink it. Black goes with everything as AndyKing says. I have three pair (various heaviness), two are black and one is dark grey and honestly I don't ever think about whether they match.

reply

LOOKS LIKE YOU GOT LOCKED IN THE ATTIC WHILE HIDING PRESENTS.
