Damn...

I love this guy's soulful, raspy voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLQJ4toj-JY

hownos introduced me to them a few years back and I liked them so much that I ended up buying all their albums.

reply

Wow, that says a lot!

reply

He was about 5 years older than me and was into a lot of bands that I hadn’t been acquainted with. That’s one of the things I miss about him.

reply

Yeah, hownos was an overall good poster here. I sort of miss him also, now that you mention it. We both love Elvis and Johnny Cash music.

reply

He also introduced me to The Little River Band and A Foot In Coldwater.

reply

Oh wow! Haven't thought of that band in a long time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPsevhQkn68 What a great song to wake up to. "A thousand mile journey begins with a single step."

reply

I should be on a music chat forum really.

reply

Well you are. We discuss music quite readily here. 😉

reply

I do sometimes feel a bit of a fraud though because I know a lot more about music than film.

reply

That's twice today you compelled me to say "wow!" I'm hoisting a scoop to you in recognition of that. 🍻

reply

Sliánte 🍻

reply

So, "hoisting a scoop" is the right expression then? I'll forever make that mental connection now whenever I fill my mug.😁🍻

reply

I’m trying to make the concept of drinking scoops go global, lol.

reply

You need to do a Budweiser commercial at this year's Super Bowl. You'll take in millions. Btw, I've seen those magnificent Clydesdales up close in a parade; got some great pictures https://www.anheuser-busch.com/about/clydesdale

reply

Really? Sorry for butting in on the conversation, but I’m so surprised you weren’t aware of Little River Band before that, Andy. I definitely would have just assumed you not only knew them, but had all their albums.

Cool Change is my LRB song of choice. Slightly corny and overblown, but the harmonies KILL! Many a drunken sing-along to that one in my time.

reply

They never had a hit in the UK and although I was toing and froing between Florida and England when they were at their most popular they didn’t make as big an impact on me as say Boston or Styx.

Once I started listening to them, I remembered tracks like Lonesome Loser and thought, ahhh, so that’s who it was.

reply

A very powerful voice and seems effortless too. This is probably my favorite of theirs.

reply

Yeah, very catchy. One of my favorites https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcLdbsrSngA

reply

That's another one I like. This is not a group that gets as much attention as some others from the same time period, so it's good to highlight them every now and then.

reply

I can’t say I know much of their music but that certainly was a classic, it’s often on the classic FM rock stations.

Great voice and WOW that hair!
As a balding dude I’m super jealous

reply

Naww man. Trust me. My hair grows too long and thick, too fast. I'd absolutely trade places with you where this is concerned.

reply

He does have a good voice. The video threw me at first, with the painfully 70s styling and hair, but the dude can sing.

reply

I'm kind of revising my opinion about his voice. It's dynamic but not quite "raspy", like Michael Bolton's. 😁

Yeah, that hair. I had long hair back then, but not to that extent. It was a rebellion thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN5zup3b7fw

reply

I have revisited that video several times now and have really noticed the hair, apart from his great voice. I'm thinking, how long did it take for him to grow that? It definitely looks real and has a healthy sheen. And what it must take to maintain that look.

reply

I'm so glad you've discovered (or rediscovered) the Guess Who. Burton Cummings has a great voice. He has some good solo songs, and also is a poet.

reply

Yeah, it's rediscovered. His music video just popped up in my YouTube recommendations. The guy is definitely gifted and btw, has a unique and interesting name.
