No, it's not a La-Z-Boy.

Can't you see it's a dead baboon?

What are the best novelty/parody songs? Some of my favorites are (in no particular order):

The I-95 Asshole Song - August Campbell and the Spur of the Moment Band

It's Hard To Be Humble - Mac Davis

99 Dead Baboons - Tim Cavanagh

A Boy Named Sue - Johnny Cash

One Piece At A Time - Johnny Cash

Ahab, The Arab - Ray Stevens

Shriner's Convention - Ray Stevens

Amish Paradise - Weird Al Yankovic

Thank God And Greyhound You're Gone - Roy Clark

Don't The Girls All Get Prettier At Closing Time - Mickey Gilley

I’m Gonna Hire A Wino - David Frizzell

The Jack - AC/DC

Big Balls - AC/DC

Zamboni - Gear Daddies

You Never Even Called Me By My Name - David Allan Coe

My Ding-A-Ling - Chuck Berry

Second Week Of Deer Camp - Da Yoopers

The Cover Of The Rolling Stone - Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show

They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa! - Napoleon XIV

We're Cowboys And We're Proud - Phil Hartman, Woody Harrelson, and Dana Carvey

You named some great ones! A few of mine that I love:

"Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues" and "Beer Run" - Todd Snider

"Toast" and "Perry Had A Pimple" - Heywood Banks

"First Baptist Bar & Grill" - Tim Wilson (RIP)

"The Pill" - Henry Phillips

Not a "novelty/parody song," per se, but my brother sent me this video earlier this year and I laughed so hard when I first watched it that I cried. This is really so well done... parody of the ending guitar duel from the movie "Crossroads" - https://youtu.be/CQEc0xOsmWk?si=Xb08CS20RPlOl2fB

🤔

I wouldn’t classify those AC/DC tracks as either novelty or parody songs. The subject matter might be unusually brash, especially considering their vintage, but to me they play like bad boy anthems as opposed to parodies.

reply

They aren't parody songs (which are a specific type of novelty song), but since they are both intentionally comical (using double entendres as the source of humor), they are novelty songs. Whole Lotta Rosie is a novelty song from them too.

Many, if not most, of Weird Al's songs are examples of parody songs. For example, Amish Paradise is a parody of Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio, Eat It is a parody of Beat It by Michael Jackson, and so on.

Fair enough 🙂

I love AC/DC, a huge fan, I’ve just never heard anyone describe their songs like that, but I see your point.

This parody song is composed entirely of statements from Kanye West and is surprisingly good music:

My Girl Bill - Jim Stafford

The Battle of New Orleans - Johnny Horton

Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah - Allan Sherman

Wow! I loved that Allan Sherman song when I was a kid. Hilarious. They actually made a board game called Camp Granada which we got for Christmas.

My little sister and my grandmother would play it together. And both of them would cheat to win. Lol

The Austin Lounge Lizards have tons of songs that fit the category, but I'll go with this one...
