Burn (2019).

Oh my God hold me back ladies and gentlemen for another probing of a FILM (but it is only a movie so let's not, for whatever reasons PLEASE, logical, rational, optional, LEGAL even, social (and boy, do we go to HERE a LOT!) and tons of other etceteras get ourselves carried away here, "sensitivity" of certain subject(S) briefly put theoretically aside) with err "controversial" subject matter involving not a man who is unstable and even does "you know what" or attempts it to someone, among OTHER plot twists, and either even threats of or presence of stuff like MURDER too, but anyways...

Look it up if you want to but...

What do we all in here think of this late 2010s thriller flick that seems to come across as "Thursday" (1998) by Skip Woods meets "11:14" (2003) with Hillary Swank and Patrick Swayze (may he rest in peace!) among others, with oblique references to Tarantino as well as films like "Clerks" (1994) and "Fargo" (1996) among possibly even other insane chick flicks like Obsessed (2009), "Stuck"(2007), Single White Female (1992) and others (anyone for "68 Kill" (2017) - and that IS a good 7/10 movie by the way) and the basic plot being...

At a gas station, from what I've heard, some young man plans a robbery. Some crazy young girl overpowers him and becomes obsessed with him and even attempts to or manages to do something that I am in general but even in these cases rather shy and embarrassed to say out loud and I don't want to bother my mother at work about it... Among other things happen is some kind of stuff related to characters' past relationships and the aforementioned chick also having conflicts with another girl character at work. Police show up and the girl worries about not getting in trouble with the law, and then some random stuff about bikers wanting to commit another robbery that seems like tribute to various films like "Oceans 11", The Big Nothing (2006) or even "The Gauntlet" (1977) with Clint Eastwood apart from the aforementioned types of movies from the start. Oh dear.

But to anyone who has seen it, is it any good or even decent? Does it handle the most controversial aspect of it with taste and dignity (and is it OK if we avoid arguments, panic and controversy here and treat it as another "disturbing cinematic material") or is it yet again problematic? Is the movie well made, interesting to watch, is it well written, directed, shot and acted? Worth seeing generally? Cheers, thanks.

P.S. I haven't seen it yet but will do if opportunity appears. :)

I watched The GAUNTLET several months back after finding out I owned it on DVD and you can definitely tell the 70's color and grain in the movie and most of the cast is probably dead or close to it. Eastwood is not far off before his number is called and he does have quite the filmography to go with

shit , I skim read various bits of that a few times to get it to parse before I realised I was reading a TheMan18 post, and thus futile.

I've seen 68 kills . its good .

Is he saying Burn(2019) is similarly good?

reply

Yay, just basically wondering IF its ANY good...

why not post this in the BURN page instead of General???

I am more curious what us common folks in the General board think of it, hence...

I almost feel like paraphrasing the popular 70s disco pop hit "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps that goes "Burn baby burn, disco inferno" when I think of this movie instead, and go "Burn station burn, movie inferno, teh teh teh"... Lol :)

Jesus - was all that necessary?

I have seen "Burn". I liked it. Is it great? No. But it is good enough to take a look.

It's different. Tilda Cobham-Hervey is good in the lead role.

It is worth an hour and a half of your time.
