I just introduced my daughter to Alien (1979).

Seeing as she’s a huge sci-fi fan, I thought I’d try something with elements of horror, just to see how she got on (she’s 10).

She was most amused that the jump scares had more of an effect on me than her and she seemed to find it quite funny.

It was playing at the theater a few months ago for the 45th anniversary.

I missed that ☹️

After this baptism by fire, Sesame Street will be a walk in the park.

Well, we did all the Muppet movies a few years ago, so……..

Father of the Year.

I’m just happy that I get to introduce all kinds of movies to her that she enjoys.

reply

THAT'S AWESOME...ALI IS 16 NOW AND MORE HARDCORE THAN I AM...AND AN EXPERT ON EVERYTHING TOO.

reply

The great thing is, as she watches more movies, the more she gets pop culture references.

Your daughter's a brave girl. Even at that age, my parents would be covering my eyes during the gory parts in the film. And I've only seen it once.

reply

Tbh, nowadays there’s far worse on TV; people melting and being eaten on Stranger Things (one of my daughter’s favourite shows).

When I asked if she thought the Alien scary, she replied scathingly, “It’s just a guy in a rubber suit.”

reply

LOL - I loved the movie but I think it would scare my 10 year old grandson - I don't think he's as brave as your daughter.

reply

I think she inherited my cynicism, lol.

reply

Are you SURE you're not AngryViking with a cute, brave little Viking daughter?

reply

I’m definitely not AngryViking, but my daughter does have a steely resolve.

If you get a chance, there's a video of North Bergen High School production of Alien as a play. It was very well done on a high school budget.

Disney was prepared to go after them for copyright but then both Ridley Scott and Sigourney Weaver endorsed the production. An extra showing was arranged just for them to attend.

Wow! What a great story 👍
