Yard work šŸ”

This has been my first real opportunity this year to really go for it, so Iā€™ve spent 5 hours, sweeping cobwebs from the brickwork, fences, patio etc.

Iā€™m now sat outside the Kingshed pub in the sun, drinking some cold ones, listening to my ā€˜Dad Rockā€™ playlist on Spotify, admiring my handiwork, lol.

Iā€™ll be doing at least an hour everyday to get it all looking good - next job, the gutter on the Kingshed.

It's amazing how yardwork makes you feel during & after it's done. The sense of accomplishment & piece of mind you feel after the work is completed. I admire the view with an Arnold Palmer under my covered front porch.

reply

Mine is a war of attrition - still satisfying though.

I love working in my yard. We've had a cool spell the past few weeks, so it's a nice time to work outside. I have one hydrangea that sometimes has pink and blue flowers and this is the year - it's spectacular.

I have box gutters and had to have two sections relined - that's the not so fun part.

I havenā€™t seen you round here for a while. Itā€™s lovely to have you back šŸ˜˜

reply

Nice of you to say that. I've been insanely busy with my house and other things. I never mentioned it, but my husband passed away back in November and it's been crazy since then. Just starting to get things where I can manage them but it feels like I take 2 steps forward and one step backwards.

reply

I am really sorry to hear the news. I will do my best to put a smile on your face.

reply

I always enjoy following your many travels - that makes me smile. I took a short trip to Napa back in March with some friends and have a cruise with a friend that begins in Quebec and ends in NYC the end of September. If you watch the Rose Parade on NY Day I will be there for 2025. Is that even televised in the UK? I'm traveling a little, but not as much as in the past.

reply

Glad to hear youā€™ve got plenty of plans. Do let us know all about them. Iā€™ll be sure to check out the Rose Parade (Iā€™m sure thereā€™s a way for me to watch this).

reply

Rose Parade has always been on my bucket list - doing this one all by myself. I'm also seriously considering a trip to Japan and that will also be alone - I don't have any friends interested in going.

reply

If you go to Japan, Iā€™ll be happy to share my experiences before you go.

reply

Sorry to hear that.

reply

If your wife and daughter helped you, would that make them The Yardbirds?

(I can't believe it's taken me 2 days to notice a pun here.)

It's only the start of June and I've already cut the grass five times. Always brings a feeling of accomplishment!

reply

I've done mine three times already this year. That's the same number of times I needed to mow the past two summers combined. We're finally out of drought conditions and it's SO nice to see so much green around here this year.

reply

Itā€™s very therapeutic.

reply

Boy, did I time it right today. I wanted to sweep all the seed hulks and twigs off my patio before it rained again. Once finished, the thunderstorms moved in barely 10 minutes after I came inside. We got 1.5 inches of rain in less than an hour and it's nearly 20ā„‰ cooler than it was an hour ago.

reply

Same here - I did an hour of weeding, said ā€˜thatā€™ll do for todayā€™, then whoosh, down came the rain.

I've been doing yard word for the past couple of weeks, off and on. I have overgrown areas of the property that I want to transform into a mowable lawn. I've been cutting down the smaller stuff (such as maple and white birch saplings) with a weed eater with a metal blade and loppers and the bigger stuff with a chainsaw. There are also stumps I've had to carve down with a chainsaw to get them low enough to the ground so a lawnmower won't get hung up on them. It's hard not to hit dirt when doing that, which dulls a chainsaw very quickly, so I've had to sharpen the blade about 6 times in the past couple of weeks.

I have a small section left to clear, but the grass is still wet from rain last night, so I have to wait a couple more hours to do that. Then I have to rake up the cut weeds, excise any sapling stumps I missed, and it will be ready to mow, which I plan to do on Saturday along with the rest of the lawn.

reply

Iā€™m exhausted just reading about it, lol.
