List stupid things that didn't come true

I'll start.

The world didn't end in 2012

The government didn't come door to door and take our guns

Nibiru didn't crash into earth for the 40th time

5G didn't reactivate covid last October

Fema death camps didn't kill 1/3 of American population

Jade helm didn't take over Texas

Internet freedom didn't stop after those internet laws were created and removed

What other sensationalist stuff didn't happen that the masses claimed it would?

reply

Y2K

99% of all government predictions

Polar ice caps are still here

No Ice Age in the 80's

No mass starvation with the population boom

Polar bears didn't go extinct

The Hole in the Ozone Layer didn't get so massive that we all now have skin cancer

Peak oil

Yep, there's a lot of crazy stuff that is repeated over and over again that people believe but has not come true.

reply

Most of that stuff is either still a problem , or it didnt happen cos we fixed it , and not fixed the esay way of just posting "bullshit!" on the internet constantly .

reply

That's what these people always say when they believe predictions.

reply

paper books are still preferred over e-readers

reply

I WILL NEVER USE A SCREEN FOR A BOOK.

reply

Why not?

reply

Its a lot cheaper , intangible nothing books are about 1/4 the price

reply

WE BUY ALL OUR BOOKS USED.

reply

Good Idea

I got a Hardback Terry Pratchett book for 10p in a charity shop recently

reply

I thought the same thing, and I still buy a lot of paper books. I even built a little free library that's by my mailbox, but when travelling, I use my e-reader. Especially when gone for a few months at a time.

reply

i spend enough time looking at screens.

The 1970's "Killer Bee" scare.

https://groovyhistory.com/killer-bees-1970s

reply

You beat me too it. Killer Bees were the first thing that came to mind for me. I remember they were still in the news when I was a little kid in the 80s.

reply

I didn't know it was still going in the 80's. I remember as a kid in the early 70's it being endlessly talked about that by the late 70's we would be swarmed by these "killer" bees", but once the 80's came, I never heard anything else about it.

reply

Yeah I caught a "special report" about it on the news around 1985 or so. I was like 6 years old and it scared the shit out of me, like, I was legit scared of bees for a while because of that crap.

reply

Acid Rain

Nuclear Holocaust

When I was a kid in the 80s those were both largely predicted to happen in the near future, yet neither has materialized. To be fair, it would be more accurate to say that these events have largely been avoided, rather than erroneously predicted. These predictions were based on the scientific understanding and geopolitical situations of their times, serving as warnings of plausible futures if no action was taken. Action was taken, and so far, they’ve been avoided.

Also, Flying Cars and Hoverboards were both predicted to be in widespread use by now. So far, neither has panned out as predicted, although those would be cool and aren’t really stupid.

EDIT: Ok I just remembered another one.

In 1997 The "Heaven's Gate" cult believed that the comet Hale-Bopp was an alien spacecraft and predicted it would take them to a higher level of existence. That didn't work out too well for them.

OR....MAYBE IT DID.🤫

reply

Hmmm….higher-level of existence? I mean, considering what happened…maybe?

But it definitely wasn’t a 🚀

reply

I think I just remembered another one.

Didn’t people use to say that California was going to sink into the ocean, or become an island? Or something like that?

That definitely didn’t come true.

reply

ESCAPE FROM LA RAN WITH THAT NOTION....MY GRANDMOTHER WAS CONVINCED AN EARTHQUAKE WOULE END UP CLIPPING US OFF AND SINKING US DOWN.

reply

Yeah I think it was the earthquake thing lol.

I saw that movie in theaters opening night. I need to rewatch it.

reply

SNAKE SURFS WITH PETER FONDA AND HANG GLIDES WITH PAM GRIER PLAYING A TRANS....WHAT MORE NEEDS TO BE SAID?...IT'S FUCKING GREAT!

reply

Wasn't there a little bit of polluted rains that happened for a while in larger polluted cities? Thus creating the name acid rains? I recall the issue, but not how wide spread it was.

reply

I think rain becoming more acidic did happen in some parts of the world, but nothing like they were predicting.

There were people claiming we would all be walking around in haz-mat suits and carrying special umbrellas every time we went outdoors by the year 2000.

reply

"Also, Flying Cars and Hoverboards were both predicted to be in widespread use by now."

Flying cars are what kids imagined we'd have in the future after watching The Jetsons or whatever. I'd be surprised if anyone with any credibility predicted they'd be in widespread use by now. A flying car is obviously an aircraft, and while they may hand out driver's licenses like candy, they don't do that with pilot's licenses. And imagine the air traffic control nightmare when you have hundreds of millions of cars flying around in the US alone.

Making a flying car is easy; they have existed for many decades; but safely integrating them into society as everyday transportation is far from easy. If it ever happens they will all be computer-controlled.

Andy Kauffman never came back from the dead.
Elvis never kept on living incognito.

reply

KAUFMAN STILL HAS TIME.

reply

Have you not seen Bubba Ho-Tep??

reply

I have. I thought it was idiotic and awful. 1/10

reply

Lol. Certainly not for everyone, but it does prove that both Elvis and JFK were still alive. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

reply

Totally!!

reply

I also recall reading oil was going to completely run out.... about 10 years ago. :)

What about that movie Inconvenient truth? I never saw it. Didn't it predict something?

reply

ManBearPig

Signed, million man

reply

Look at Alex Jones' track record.

reply

For what? Things that didn't happen? I'm aware SOME things do happen

reply

I stopped listening to him years ago. It's WWIII every week with that idiot. And all the Vax BS. He claimed everyone who took the vaccine will be dead in 3 years. He claimed they were genociding people without their vaccine passports at road blocks... arresting them then euthanizing them. And that there are concentration camps in Canada... where I am btw, a complete bullshit. Someone should put him in a straight jacket. Maybe he's right about some things and I do prefer infowars to just about any msm network but he's totally discredited himself with his lunatic theories way too many times and he's doubling down on all of it, instead of apologizing. He's probably the main catalyst for vaccine paranoia... almost everyone I know has gotten it and I don't know personally of one person who has croaked since covid... All my friends who died of heart attacks or even acquaitences, people I barely know... died of heart attacks pre-covid. Heart attacks have been a thing since before covid... Young/old, vaxed/unvaxed it's the number one killer for many many years. Anyways fuck Alex Jones for all the paranoia and anxiety he's caused me and many others.

reply

All true. I've never followed his fiction.

Online people are believing fiction is truth these days, with zero proof. Then making up crazy justifications later.

It's all quite insane and unchecked.

reply

The government would freeze the bank accounts of people it disagreed with.

Oh, wait.

reply

hahahaha I missed that one. Do you know what that came out? or have a link about it?

reply

A federal judge ruled Justin Trudeau use of the Emergencies Act was unconstitutional.

reply

And guess what happened.

They appealed. No apologies.

reply

All of a sudden the people who shout "fascist" are the ones who were fascist themselves.
