The Deer Hunter

I just finished Hide and Seek with Robert De Niro, and wanted to see some clips from his supposed genius, in classic films. I can't imagine watching all of The Deer Hunter, as I hate war movies, but that Russian Roulette Scene is damn impressive.

the movie is a tad ahistorical. takes place in 72 or 73 when the war is winding down and we have married guys volunteering. they acted as if they knew nothing about the war. should have taken place in 66 or 67

reply

I would not call it a war film in the traditional sense. If you love movies, you should defiantly watch it at least once.

"If you love movies, you should defiantly watch it at least once."

Why "defiantly"?! πŸ€”β€‹
I know what the word means but don't understand it in this sentence.
Sorry, English isn't my first Language, you know. πŸ¦Œβ€‹

reply

You need to "extrapolate from context" that the poster meant so say "definately"
Although my spell checker refuses to accept that thats a word and wants to change it back to defiantly :)

An understandable query if English not first language , Your English is clearly a hundred times better than any of my attempts at other languages !

Definitely...not "definately". πŸ‘‹β€‹

Full Metal Jacket does it for me. And I was in the Marines at the end of the Vietnam era, though not in-country.

It just all rings true to me.

The deer hunter was a very sloppy movie, had its moments. I thought the in-country stuff was well done.
