Legendary actors who never starred in a film considered a classic.

Obviously you could debate the definition of "legendary" and "classic", but just go for it anyway.

Glenn Close
Sean Connery
Sally Field
Sean Penn
Jane Fonda
Helen Mirren
Michael Douglas

reply

Everyone on this list has been in at least one classic movie......or more.

reply

As I said, it's all up for debate.

Glenn Close - Fatal Attraction
Sean Connery - some of the most classic Bond films, The Untouchables
Sally Field - Norma Rae
Sean Penn - Dead Man Walking, Mystic River
Jane Fonda - Cat Ballou, Klute
Helen Mirren - your best example
Michael Douglas - Wall Street, Fatal Attraction

Glenn Close - Fatal Attraction
Sean Connery - Hunt for Red October
Sally Field - Smokey and the Bandit
Jane Fonda - 9 to 5
Michael Douglas - Falling Down

Helen Mirren is the only one I agree with.

This is a subjective topic, and it will vary from person-to-person what constitutes a classic. I think it was a good film that still has fans, but was largely forgotten by time. So in my book, not a classic.

Glenn Close - Fatal Attraction
Sean Connery - The Hunt for the Red October
Sally Field - Forrest Gump
Sean Penn - Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Helen Mirren - Excalibur, still the bench mark for King Arthur films.
Michael Douglas - Romancing the Stone

I’m not saying I agree with all the films I mentioned, especially Gump but I can see how those films could be considered modern classics.

reply

You're right about Sally Field. I forgot she was in it.

reply

🤣

reply

Gump is not a film I like but many do so I was trying to be objective. Classic is a hard term as many young people don’t watch old films anymore. So lots of movies will probably fade away.

reply

I like how I said the definition of "classic" is debatable, then gave me shit mentioning classics they think they've been in while everyone is giving different examples of what they think those classics are.

reply

THIS THREAD IS FUCKED...NO AMOUNT OF BACKPEDALING AND OVER-EXPLAINING CAN SAVE IT.

reply

It's literally in my first comment in the thread. It's not back pedalling. People are giving different answers to those actors and what they consider a classic.

reply

NO...EVERYONE IS SHREDDING YOUR NOMINATIONS...I DON'T SEE ANY FRESH SUGGESTIONS...ONLY REFUTING
OF YOURS.🤣

reply

Maybe because they're too scared to get the same treatment.

Sean Connery - Indiana Jones The Crusade

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this one, it’s arguably the best of the classic series.

reply

I was even questioning if Sean Connery was a legend for the fact that he wasn't really an amazing actor. He acted the same and really couldn't lose his accent. He was more a star than an amazing actor and that's including his Oscar.

reply

YIKES.🫤

reply

BIKES.

reply

You’re not exactly wrong, but it’s irrelevant to the conversation. He still played a bunch of iconic roles, and left his mark on the industry. He’s also a good enough actor that he never takes you out of the movie.

Even a bad actor can be in a bunch of classics movies though, just look at Keanu Reeves.

reply

Keanu Reeves is a bad actor? Name me one actor that can say "whoa" better than him. Exactly, you can't!

reply

Joey Lawrence, Owen Wilson.

reply

Good point. 3 top tier thespians.

reply

My favourite is Highlander where the French guy plays a Scot and the Scot plays a Spaniard and no one loses their accent.

This thread is so far the leading candidate for "Worst MovieChat thread of 2024".

Has no one on this site ever seen Places in the Heart (1984)? Sally Field won the best actress Oscar, the film won Best Original Screenplay and had 6 other nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (John Malkovich) and Actress. Danny Glover also stars.

Maybe Stonedkeeper should schedule this for his Friday or Saturday viewing.

reply

The fact that you are bringing up Places in the Heart when no one else did is pretty much the reason for this post. You were supposed to provide a list of actors you believed to be legendary and decide that they had not starred in a film that was a classic. Some people don't think Places in the Heart is a classic, while others might. It's fine that you disagree with my list, but the intention was to provide your own list.

reply

TOLD YOU...SHIT THREAD,CHUDFACE.

reply

I initially wanted to add Stallone to the list but the first Rocky would be a classic.

Will Smith, maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t rate any of his films as classics. Same with Denzel.

reply

Training Day and Philadelphia for Denzel.

reply

Will Smith: Independence Day & Men In Black

reply

I thought about both of those I don’t see them as classics.
