Legendary actors who never starred in a film considered a classic.

Obviously you could debate the definition of "legendary" and "classic", but just go for it anyway.

Glenn Close
Sean Connery
Sally Field
Sean Penn
Jane Fonda
Helen Mirren
Michael Douglas

reply

NOPE...I DISAGREE WITH YOU ENTIRE LIST...BAD THREAD..BAD!

reply

+1

reply

I disagree with your mother not putting you up for adoption, but here we are.

reply

I AGREE WITH THAT DISAGREEMENT...SEE?...YOU ARE CAPABLE OF RATIONAL THOUGHT...SOMETIMES.

reply

Aren't Connery's James Bond films considered classics?

reply

JANE FONDA IS IN ON GOLDEN POND...SEAN PENN IS IN FAST TIMES...THE SCUMBAG'S WHOLE LIST IS FUCKED UP.

reply

Falling Down and Black Rain for Douglas too.

The only one I'm not sure about is Sally Field, but I'm sure she's in something.

I was thinking Bronson Pinchot is a legendary actor, for playing Balki on TV, that has never been in a classic film...but then I remembered Beverly Hills Cop and True Romance, so not even he would make the list.

reply

worst list ever. 😊

reply

💯🤣

reply

SALLY FIELD...

SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT.

MRS. DOUBTFIRE.

FORREST GUMP.

NORMA RAE.

reply

I forgot about Sally Field being in Forrest Gump. But none of the others are classics. Those aren't among the greatest films of all time.

reply

“Greatest Films of all time” is much more specific than a classic film. It’s still subjective, but it’s a much more narrowly defined concept. I think some of the names you mentioned might make more sense now.

reply

People use "classic" too loosely to mean anything that becomes popular. I've heard people say Home Alone 2 is a classic. I'm going by the actual historic definition:

clas·sic
/ˈklasik/
adjective
1.
judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind.

reply

HOME ALONE 2 HAS BEEN JUDGED OVER A PERIOD OF TIME TO BE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY AND OUTSTANDING OF IT'S KIND...BEING A 90'S CHRISTMAS FAMILY FLICK.

reply

Home Alone 2 is shit.

reply

YOUR OPINIONS ARE GROSS AND OFTEN SOMEHOW...WRONG...THIS WE ALREADY KNOW.

reply

6.8 on IMDb. 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. How is this a top tier Christmas movie?

reply

I DID NOT SAY IT WAS...BUT FOR PEOPLE WHO GREW UP IN THE 80S/90S...IT IS OFTEN CONSIDERED TOP TIER...TIMES CHANGE...CLASSICS ARE SUBJECTIVE...YOUR THREAD STINKS OF SHIT.

reply

CLASSICS ARE SUBJECTIVE

Why do you keep telling me this when I wrote it in my original thread?

reply

REPEATING THINGS A LOT IS HOW DUMB PEOPLE LEARN....YOU ARE WELCOME.

reply

How did I not learn? It's literally in my original post.

Me: You can debate the definition of "classic".

You: "The definition of "classic" is debatable.

Me: Yeah, I know. I already said that.

You: "Classic" could mean different things.

Me: Correct. I've said this twice now.

You: Your subjective list is subjective.

Me: I'm aware. I said to just go with it.

You: But you can debate the definition of what a classic is.

Me: FFS.

reply

🥱

reply

Cleaning the jizz off your mouth again, I see.

reply

AND HERE COMES THE ANTI-GAY SENTIMENTS.

WHAT A TROGLODYTE.

🥱

reply

How is that anti gay? I didn't say there was anything wrong with it.

reply

MMM HMM...WATCH YOURSELF,KID.🫤

reply

Home Alone 2 is definitely a classic and fits that definition. This is subjective of course, but I think most people calling it a classic are using the phrase accurately.

A film like Ghostbusters (1984) is largely considered to be a classic, and fits the definition you outlined above, but that's different from calling it one of the greatest films of all time.

I know it seems vague, but there is a shade of difference there, enough so that your list of names in your OP makes sense as one but not the other.

reply

FURTHERMORE...CITIZEN KANE IS COMMONLY CONSIDERED ONE OF THE GREATEST FILMS OF ALL TIME AND I FIND IT BORING AS ALL HELL...SO EVEN GREATEST OF ALL TIME IS SUPER SUBJECTIVE.

BUT OBVIOUSLY WE ALL KNOW MANNEQUIN IT THE GOAT.

reply

CITIZEN KANE IS COMMONLY CONSIDERED ONE OF THE GREATEST FILMS OF ALL TIME AND I FIND IT BORING AS ALL HELL

Correct, but it's still considered a classic whether you think it should be or not.

reply

CORRECT...BUT GREATEST OF ALL TIME AND CLASSIC ARE BOTH SUBJECTIVE...AND YOUR THREAD IS OBJECTIVELY STUPID.

reply

Again, why are you telling me? I already know.

reply

YOU ALREADY KNOW YOUR THREAD IS STUPID....GOOD...ADMITTING YOU HAVE A PROBLEM S THE FIRST STEP ON THE JOURNEY TO RECOVERY...RECOVERY FROM BEING THE WORST THING EVER.

reply

There is going to be overlap between "Classic" and "GOAT" films, and any film that is a GOAT is pretty much guaranteed to also be a classic.

In nerd talk: The key distinction lies in the generally understood parameters for how they are conceptualized. "Classic" is a broader term that encompasses a wide range of beloved films, including those that may not be technically or artistically superior but have a lasting impact or widespread appeal. "Greatest," on the other hand, implies a higher standard of quality and impact, often judged by professionals in the field and acknowledged by peer-group associations like the Academy, SAG, the DGA, Critics associations, etc.

reply

Then I could argue that I could have added "lasting impact or widespread appeal" to my topic if that was the context. Classic should just mean classic in this case even though that is debatable to begin with. For example: I think Fargo is a classic and should be considered one, but not everyone would agree.

reply

EVERYONE AGREES...FARGO IS A CLASSIC...HOW ARE YOU CONSISTANTLY THIS DUMB?🤔

reply

Everyone? Really? There was a debate here a few months ago where people were saying The Shawshank Redemption isn't one of the greatest movies of all time even though so many people (including myself) think it is.

reply

IT ISN'T...IT IS HOWEVER A CLASSIC...LEARN,DUMMY...LEARN!@!!

reply

I think you if you had said "A Legendary actor that hasn't been in a film considered to be one of the greatest films of all time" would have gotten much different responses, probably the ones you were looking for.

reply

But I did state that "classic" can be debated in my original post.

reply

ORIGINAL POST WAS STUPID...HAS THIS NOT ALREADY BEEN ESTABLISHED?🤔

reply

No one's disagreeing that a classic can be debated, but the post was still vague. I mean look at this entire thread lol.

The only way to find out for sure is to make a new thread titled "A Legendary actor that hasn't been in a film considered to be one of the greatest films of all time" instead of classic, and keep everything else the same.

reply

TO BE FAIR...I AM IN A GOOD MOOD AND WOULD HAVE KOWALSQUIRTED ALL OVER THIS THREAD...REGARDLESS OF THE joke's WORDING.🙂

reply

😂😂😂

reply

I went by my definition of what a classic is and it's fine if you think they are classics or not. The point of the post was for you guys to provide your own.

reply

Citizen Kane bored me too.

reply

I WAS BORN IN THE 80S...MOST OF THE "CLASSICS" SEEM BORING TO ME.

reply

I don't get the appeal of it either.

I have the special edition Blu-ray that has a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Citizen Kane, and it's actually better than film itself.

reply

The camera techniques, angles and lighting are all highly esteemed and I agree with all of that, it was a beautiful looking movie. Otherwise it was slow and the reveal was uninteresting.

reply

"Outstanding of its kind".

Like as a film. I think it's a stretch to refer to "of its kind" as a Christmas film. Would a rapping camel movie be considered a classic because it's the only movie to exist with that therefore making it the default best of its kind?

reply

CHRISTMAS MOVIES IS THE KIND...DIPSHIT.🙂

reply

NOBODY SAID THEY WERE...INCLUDING YOUR ORIGINAL OP...DUMBASS.

reply

clas·sic
/ˈklasik/
adjective
1.
judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind.

reply

THAT DEFINITION SUPPORTS ME...NOT YOU.

reply

Your bra supports you.

reply

BURNED IT.🔥

I love how you and I are making the same argument but in two very different tones 😂

Threads like this are why I love this website lol

Agreed lol.

reply

MOD5...IS YOU ARE WATCHING...NAKED LADIES WOULD MAKE THIS SITE BETTER...JUST A SUGGESTION.

reply

The tone is that you're smart and Kowalski isn't.

reply

VINCE IS WELL SPOKEN AND I AM LOUD AND WILD...DEAL WITH IT,MR.PUBICHAIRFACE.

reply

I'm not sure about me LOL but Kowalski is actually really smart underneath all his bluster. I think he's a big softy too lol.

reply

Comparing you to no one, you're smart. Comparing you to Kowalski makes you a rocket scientist.

reply

MORE ANTI-GAY STUFF...CHILL OUT WEIRDO.

reply

There wasn't any anti-gay stuff.

reply

I HAVE SEEN A ROCKET...I KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SHAPED LIKE...EVERYONE DOES...YOU CAN'T FOOL ME...MISTER HATER!

The only rocket you've seen is that one you used to get to Earth from your home planet.

PROBABLY...BUT I AM NOT THAT LUCKY...I AM JUST ONE LUCKY THC SOAKED SPERMATOZOA THAT MADE THE JOURNED TO A THC SOAKED EGG.🚼

reply

She was in Forrest Gump, but she didn't star.

reply

Sally Field should be on the list for Sybil...I've been trying to find that movie to stream for years. Do you have on dvd?

reply

I DO NOT...NEED IT THOUGH.

reply

Ain't no on calling On Golden Pond a classic. Neither is Fast Times. That's just an 80s teen romp that people like.

reply

THIS IS WHY YOU ARE THE WORST EXCUSE FOR HUMAN THAT EVER SLITHERED OUT OF A SNATCH.

reply

Jane didn't star in On Golden Pond, her father did. However, she did star in Nine to Five. I think many would rate that a classic.

reply

JANE CO -STARS...I AGREE ABOUT NINE TO FIVE THOUGH.

reply

I think the franchise is more of a popularity thing. Does anyone put Dr. No or Goldfinger amongst the greatest of all time?

reply

YOU THINKING IS WHAT GOT US INTO THIS MESS I THE FIRST PLACE...MAYBE TAKE A BREAK.😘

reply

I would say so. Connery also starred in "The Hunt for Red October," a classic in my book.

reply

very subjective.

reply

Everything is subjective. Having lists of the top 5 best actors is subjective.

reply

AGREED...WHICH IS WHY YOUR THREAD IS STUPID.🙂

reply

Aren't you the one asking people to put the top 3 movies/tv shows of actors and actresses constantly?

reply

MY THREADS ARE POSITIVE...YOURS IS DUMB.🤣

reply

🤣💪🏾

reply

You took your lumps on this one buddy, I sure won't pile on:)

reply

In my defence, I wrote a disclaimer in the beginning.

reply

Quite true.

reply

IN YOUR DEFENSE...IT'S REMARKABLE YOU TYPE AS WELL AS YOU DO FROM WITHIN YOUR CAGE.

reply

Says the guy who said Home Alone 2 is a classic.

reply

A CLASSIC 90S CHRISTAS MOVIE...OR A CLASSIC FAMILY CHRISTMAS MOVIE.

THE WORD CLASSIC CAN BE APPLIED IN MANY WAYS...EXCEPT YOURS...WHICH IS WRONG...AND DUMB.🤣

reply

THE WORD CLASSIC CAN BE APPLIED IN MANY WAYS

No shit which is why I wrote, "obviously you could debate the definition of "legendary" and "classic", but just go for it anyway" in the beginning of my thread. Do you know how to read?

reply

I READ IT...YOUR LIST WAS SO GARBAGE THOUGH...I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF...YOU HAVE BEEN KOWALSQUIRTED.

reply

My list was also subjective. See how that works?

reply

NO...I ONLY SEE YOU MAKING A FOOL OF YOURSELF...AS PER USUAL.🙂

This doesn't prove that you're not wearing a mask in that pic.

reply

I WEAR THAT MASK IN EVERY PICTURE I HAVE EVER TAKEN.

reply

You should wear another one.

I TRIED TO GET A samoanjoke MASK 3D PRINTED BUT THE DUDE SAID HE WAS WORRIED IT WOULD GET OUT AND HE DIDN'T WANT HIS BUSINESS TO BECOME A HANGOUT FOR HORNY PYGMY WILDEBEASTS.

Clearly he's a liar because he printed the mask you're wearing in that pic.

Glenn Close - Fatal Attraction
Sean Connery - the Untouchables, Bond films
Sally Field - Smoky and the Bandit
Sean Penn - Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Jane Fonda - The China Syndrome
Helen Mirren - Excalibur
Michael Douglas - Wall Street

These were off the top of my head, except for Jane Fonda. I've never seen on Golden Pond. I'm not sure China Syndrome is classic movie making, but it had a pretty big impact at the time.

Smoky and the Bandit and Fast Times might not be what most people think of as examples of great filmmaking, but they were pretty influential and were sort of definitive movies of their time.

reply

Fair criticism. Not like Kowalski.

Are there any legends you would say haven't been in any classics?

reply

CRITICISM NONETHELESS...FOR YOUR DUMB AS ROCKS THREAD THAT IS NOW COVERED IN KOWALSQUIRT!

reply

Now Bambi is a classic. ”Bambi considered a classic in the Disney canon for its lush hand-drawn animation and its sensitive affective narrative.”

Why am I wasting my time on this silly OP? Anyhow, it’s all relative to the viewer. Frankly I think “Porky’s” is a classic! It’s another ‘80’s film. 🤷🏼‍♀️

BTW, distant Pollack cousin, have you prepared my pierogis yet, or my golumpki? I’ve been under the weather.

reply

I was maybe reaching a little with Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren. China Syndrome was one of those movies that was kind of a cultural event at the time that got people talking. I'm not sure it holds up that well, though.

Excalibur is kind of the opposite sort of situation. It seems like it's more highly regarded now. Fantasy movies tended to be lower budget, badly written, b movies back when I was growing up in the 80s. Excalibur had that epic quality you didn't see much in fantasy movies until the LOTR movies in the early 2000s. Maybe not quite a classic, though. I'm not sure about that one.

reply

I kind of expected people to say "so and so is a classic". It's kind of hard to say definitively unless it's something like The Godfather.

reply

I wouldn’t put tank rider Jane & Helen Mirren in the same sentence. What an insult!

reply
