😞 Another visit cancelled 😞

My son and his family were planning a 3-day visit, arriving tomorrow and staying with me. We were planning to take their kids to the Minnesota Zoo in The Cities and check out the new Tree Top Trail (the zoo repurposed the old monorail structure into an elevated walking trail, 1.25 miles long). It sounds like a great way to get another more views of the animals.

Mother Nature has put the kibosh on our plans again. The weather on Friday is forecast to be rainy, chilly (42℉), and windy (30 mph). Then there's the issue that their area in North Dakota is going to get up to 6" of the white stuff.

Bummer! Oh well. 😞

go walk that trail any way & take some pics to send & show em what they missed out on, perfect weather to go see the Zoo residents

With 30 mph winds? No way!

Cinema it is then 🎫🎟️

reply

True. I have plenty of indoor chores to do while I put a few movies on.

reply

I sense lots of child friendly Halloween films.

Hey, it's always an adventure here! Like Forest Gump says, you never know what you're going to get.

In the winter, ya sorta do: snow and extreme cold.

reply

Ah, you get used to it. Besides, we like to say that our winters keep the riffraff out.

Well said. I visited Alaska in Dec. 2015 to view the Aurora, and I quickly learned how to tell a native from a tourist. The native was dressed less warmly. One dude who picked me up at an airport was in shorts. Temperature at the time was around - 30 F.

πŸ™‚

PS It definitely keeps this rif raff out!

Around here this time of year, it's common to see in all matters of dress. Some are wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and sandals. Others are decked out in in jackets, sweatshirts, and the like.

My parents say Alaskans are interesting people. They have a great sense of humor, are genuine, make no apologies about themselves, and are very tough when it comes to the cold. Nothing phases them except bears and moose.

reply

The one and only Alaskan I know, met online.
Can confirm about him what you said.
Except, he regularly fed a moose from his kitchen window.
He sent photos, very cute. β™₯

I will agree with that.

Perhaps karma, fate or whatever you believe in meant it good with you and your family.
It might be better to stay safe home this weekend.
So, please don't be sad. πŸ«‚β€‹

The news are full with this horrible happening.

Oh, I know. I'm very lucky and I DO appreciate what I have. Traveling this time of year is always a crapshoot. Weather permitting, I'm heading up to Grand Forks to see them next weekend. My 14-year-old granddaughter is having her first orchestra concert on November 4th and has invited me to come. She plays the violin (piano, too). One grandson is learning to play the guitar, and another is learning the banjo.

That's what I call a musical family! β™₯ πŸŽ»β€‹ πŸŽΉβ€‹ 🎸 πŸͺ•β€‹

Our parents tried it with me (learning the piano).
Unfortunately with little success. *ahem*

Hey, your grandchildren make a fantastic addition to this. πŸ’–β€‹

The banjo would give it a special touch.
No kidding...banjo πŸͺ• sounds great. πŸŽ΅β€‹ πŸŽΆβ€‹

Talented bunch! I'm thinking the weather will permit - there is no way Mother Nature is going to interfere with Grandma getting to her babies again.

I've heard them play a bit when I visit. I just love it! They are all very active kids with plenty of interests: baseball, soccer, softball, karate, gymnastics, fishing, archery, and more. Last winter, their dad put a small hockey rink in their backyard.

reply

Idk how old the kids are, but it seems like the season to create a paper trunk from newspapers and brown paint, stick it on the wall, add some leaves from the garden and pretend the indoors are the outdoors for now. You could even set up a tent in the living room and pretend you're camping while playing something nature-y on the tv for the ambience.

reply

I gather you mean a "tree trunk." At first I was picturing something like this: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/84/5c/9e/845c9e5e394593feefa4c8584b3f973c.jpg

or maybe this:

I couldn't quite figure out how to stick it to the wall. And then there are the leaves...

reply

Lol well if they help to create a tree trunk, sure. Use blutack for the leaves and paper, but if you're using a wooden trunk or swimming trunks, then yeah that might be harder haha.

One of my uncles used to live in Minnesota with his family. They lived near St. Paul, so we could go to the Mall of America. Is that an option for you? I've been there several times and it was always fun :D My fave ride was the Kite-Eating Tree.
