I don’t get the appeal or the exorbitant pricing of it? Does anyone really buy it as an investment? It seems like most jewelry pieces, like cars, start losing value as soon as you buy them. I can see how it was a thing in the middle ages, but why is it still a part of so many human rituals?
Do you wear jewelery? I find most of it uncomfortable.

I usually wear a sterling silver chain with a pendant, along with a Longines watch. I have an 18k gold chain/pendant, but only wear it now and then.
Most jewelry isn't an investment and is only worth its weight in whatever its made up of.
I have no solid reason why I wear it except I like it.
I love jewelry but I don't belong to the social circles where extravagant jewelry is appropriate - sigh.
There is a vast difference between diamonds used in jewelry and investment quality diamonds and the only "investment " quality gold jewelry is 24k - which by the way is exempt from government seizure. However, there are a lot of vintage quality pieces, such as Faberge' that do hold value and increase in value as time passes.
The crazy thing is diamond prices and quantity used to be controlled by De Beers - most really aren't that rare or valuable. It was determined they had a monopoly on the business, but they still control about 30% of the business today.
That's right, I think most diamonds are used in industrial applications.
Most gold jewelry, even the high-end kind, is not 24k as that is too soft. Tiffany, Cartier typically uses 18k. India is known for its 22k jewelry, that's as high as it is going to get for jewelry. But there is a reason why Tiffany, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, etc. don't use it...its just not durable.
It is possible to buy 24k jewelry and people do so because it can't be confiscated by the government simply because it's jewelry. Maybe they don't wear it and just keep it in a safe?
I'm not sure what the price difference is between 22k and 24k.
Were are you? In the USA you can buy 24k gold bars or coins all day long...no one can "confiscate" them

The most common thing for me to wear is a dog-tag style pendant. I also have a few bracelets but don't wear them very often. I do have a couple choker necklaces and a few pendants that I can choose from. Wear occasionally, not too often.
Why humans are still into jewelry…? Well, what's the alternative? Maybe we should all wear a Mao suit?

The only jewellery I have is my wedding band - unless you count watches, that’s a different conversation.

I'm not into jewelry but it's not really the looks of it, it's just uncomfortable for me to have something around my wrists or neck. I don't even like wearing a watch, even though I think some watches can look cool.
I agree the value of jewelry as an investment, in the current era, does seem strange.

I remember when I was 15 around 1980 it was popular to wear a gold necklace. Other than when I was a kid I never had any interest in jewelry.

Needless to say I don't have my own diamond tiara, so I'll just say that I admire the better class of jewelry as an art form. For myself, I just have a few turquoise and sterling silver rings, I like turquoise and the way every stone is different.
