You think I should apply to UPS for delivry driver?

Been disabled for like 14 years on disability, im homeless trying to get housing help and saving money at a shelter currently

Diagnosed with psychosis and schizo affective disorder but theres no doubt in my mind i have seasonal affective disorder and iron deficiency

I like liberating myself and learning but I would like to earn a decent wage, i do have a rebel side to me because of noam chomsky and musicians,

would have to relocate to where the positions are

Im 44 and not getting rich on disability

Ya know just apply, they dont have to offer me the job, and my butt would have to travel out there for the interview, across state lines

Ya know just show interest and apply and see if it sticks

Apply in whatever city you're in. Jobs aren't always listed on the internet and people come and go all the time at these places. Keep in mind though you'll be loading/unloading. Takes a while to become a driver.

Yup. I have a friend who drives for them. Started as a package handler in the warehouse. They streamlined the hiring process during the pandemic; all online, no interview. Basically just a background check. Probably not a bad option for someone struggling to establish a work history.

2 catches:

1-It's tough labor. I hear a lot of this & think people exaggerate. But there's really only 1 way to tell if you're up to the job; give it a shot.

2-They won't always have hours for you. It's basically a chance for workers to prove they're reliable before they can be offered an actual career.

But if theres a trucking contract or union contract, is that the same as selling your soul to the devil?

I know a guy with psychosis and he's basically normal. It's not a deal breaker and they can function quite well. It's not the same as saying someone is psycho. Lol. It's a manageable disorder.

Yeah. I'm not a psychologist or anything. But I read now schizo is not even a split personality anymore.

If this guy wants to better himself getting off disability and getting a job is the best thing he can do.

Hopefully he doesn't run anybody over! But I don't think he's that kinda crazy.

You can do that or any other position in the company. I have a friend who worked in one of the shipping warehouses, and he made enough to afford his own place.

I suspect that they've suddenly been flooded with applications, but what the hell. Applying is free, and interview practice never hurts!

And BTW do NOT tell them anything about your medical history while applying, even if they ask. It's illegal for them to ask, and health-related discrimination may be illegal, but it's still common because nobody enforces the existing laws in any meaningful way.

Yeah, don’t ever admit to a disability unless it is something that anyone can obviously see (i.e. walking, severe vision or hearing problems, etc.). No matter how much the company claims they are inclusive with people with disabilities, it is something they can use against you and they will if they want to.

I am a little suspicious of these new corporate programs where they reduce your health insurance costs or they contribute to your health savings account if you submit medical records about the results of your annual physical bio screen. Could see that being consulted by HR when layoffs are needed
