who has this number now?

reply

Yes

I do. 212-AC2-xxxx (don't want to give out someone's #). AC was ACademy, the name of the exchange. 222. We moved to Brooklyn when I was 17 and I don't recall that number or any other -- I don't even recall what my number was right before I moved to Reno, 10 years ago.

My parents still have it.

Yes, and I still have the same phone number. Well, "still" isn't the right word. About 5 years ago I managed to get it back, so from 1960-1968 it was Dad's phone number; from 1968-1987 it was my parents' phone number; from 1987-1991 it was Mom's phone number; from 1991 to about 5 years ago it was I-don't-know-whose phone number, and for the past 5 years or so it's been my phone number again. Whoever had it last finally had it disconnected (which I knew was just a matter of time, considering how most people are ditching their landlines in favor of glorified walkie-talkies these days), at which point I jumped on it.

The phone company said it would cost me $30 to have my number changed (after I finally got ahold of an older lady there who actually knew how to do it [probably a former, genuine Ma Ball operator]; the airheads I talked to about it previously didn't have a clue), but they never actually charged me for it.

Yeah it stayed the same for quite some time before we changed it. I remember all the family numbers from childhood.
