Name a mediocre movie with a GREAT cast

What's a film that wastes a wonderful cast, in your opinion.

I just rewatched How Do You Know (2010) for the first time since it came out & it's still one of the dullest films I've ever watched.

It's not bad, it's just uninteresting. Which is a shame cause it's from the director of Terms of Endearment (1983), Broadcast News (1987) and As Good as it Gets (1997). 3 really good films imo.

And it stars Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Kathryn Hahn & Jack Nicholson (in his last role I believe)

And for a "comedy", it just falls flat.

I can't think of many mediocre ones with a great cast, off the top of my head, but I can think of a *really TERRIBLE* one with a great cast. It features the following actors: Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Liev Schrieber, Bob Odenkirk, Uma Thurman, Richard Gere, Chloe Grace Moritz and Terrence Howard, among others.

Oh wow, I thought I erased that movie from my memory. Thanks for reminding me of that pos movie existing, man

Like holy shit, I couldn't even enjoy it in a "it's so bad that it's entertaining" kinda way. It was just atrocious

reply

I've never seen it, but it sounds excruciating. I just know that no-one has a good word to say about it, despite that great cast.

reply

You haven't seen it? Oh, thank goodness for that.

My friends & I used to joke that the movie was a money laundering scheme. Cause why would that many A-listers agree to work on such an awful movie.

That or the studio had dirt on 'em. lol

The Fall of the Roman Empire (1964) - I've never been able to finish it.
Sophia Loren
Stephen Boyd
Alec Guinness
James Mason
Christopher Plummer
Mel Ferrer
Omar Sharif

Cleopatra (1963) - about a half hour of this 3 hour extravaganza is any good.
Elizabeth Taylor
Richard Burton
Rex Harrison
Hume Cronyn
Roddy McDowall
Martin Landau

“about a half hour of this 3 hour extravaganza is any good”

If I had to guess, your referring to when Cesar first arrives in Alexandria and meets Cleopatra.

Nine : Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz and Fergie

And this is coming from someone who loves musicals but this one was a big fail.since Chicago Rob Marshall hasn’t made anything great.

Good thread idea!

The V.I.P.S
Elizabeth Taylor (one of the few beauties for me in Hollywood)... Richard Burton, Orson Welles, etc..

I'll admit I didn't finish it, but it seemed nothing but "Here's a star, now shut up" but the movie buff on this other site liked it, so I might give it a second shot in honor of him.

"It's a Mad Mad Mad World" -- many "comedians"... I don't find any of them funny, and after 30 minutes I know this is one I won't watch again.

reply

I remember It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World as being a big hit at its release. I think I've seen it one more time after it was in theaters. It's funny, but tastes have changed a lot since 1963. Its running time of 3 hours, 30 minutes is over the top these days. Way over the top.

reply

Really?

I love The Hateful Eight. My favourite Tarantino film since the 90s.

The Great Gatsby (1974)

Robert Redford, Mia Farrow, and several great character actors

it all came off very flat and dull, though

reply

Dreamcatcher (2003)

Morgan Freeman, Damian Lewis, Thomas Jane, Tom Sizemore, Jason Lee, Timothy Olyphant and Donnie Wahlberg

reply

Be Cool (2005)

John Travolta

reply

An unnecessary sequel to a really good movie. Get Shorty was excellent. Be Cool was so forgettable
