Is The 70s Indisputably the Best Decade for Popular Music?

Or is my assumption incorrect?

We had soul, Motown, funk, disco, punk, new wave, prog rock, art rock, bubblegum pop, the beginnings of hip hop, synth pop etc etc.

There was some great stuff in the 60s and 80s too, but the 70s feels more consistent, it feels like a culmination of a lot of the good stuff coming out of the 60s, and by the tail-end of the 80s, it seems like record studios were turning back to earlier decades for inspiration, with covers and re-releases dominating the charts.

Let’s not forget Metal and some really good Country…Dolly, Cash, Nelson etc.
Yeah, I liked some of the 60s pop and the 80s and 90s had lots of great stuff but the 70s might have been the best.

I don’t listen to very much new music these days, I dig the old stuff.

Are you a fan of that group that wears clown makeup?

I'm talking about Insane Clown Posse.

reply

It was for me.

70s is the best decade for music in general. I was born in the 80s but most of the albums I own are from the 70s.

reply

Yes.

65-75 was the sweet spot.

reply

Lol, no. 80s and 90s were the best. Even the 60s were better.

reply

Much of the 80s and 90s seems to be dominated by covers and rereleases of 70s and 60s songs.

reply

You must've been listening to entirely different music than most of us.😐

reply

I think it's all pretty subjective to the decade you grew up in (with exceptions, of course), but for me (60yo) the mid/late 60's through the 70's truly had it all😎

In my opinion, this is also true for film.
