Most of these are war movies, which is understandable. For something a little different, HBO had a really great miniseries about ten years ago on America's founding. Sorry that I can't recall title. I do remember the guy who played Thomas Jefferson went on to play Stannis Baratheon in Game of Thrones.

This is the movie that first came to mind. First saw it in Cinemascope when I was a youngster. As we were leaving the theatre, my grandfather bought me a souvenir book that was being sold in the lobby. The book was taken by the son of a roommate I had way back when. He "borrowed" it, but never gave it back. 😞

Oh, yes! Epic is a good word for it. I remember that it seemed to go on for a long time... Cinerama was great for its time.
