Is it best to say "No comment" if asked reason why giving your notice to quit?

Why bother giving the true reason especially if it's a toxic work environment? It's not like it will change anything anyway. So, why bother?

Also, employers can retaliate if you give a negative reason.

I'd say "No comment". Just keep it neutral. Short and sweet. Neither positive or negative.

You don't need to give a reason. You are simply parting ways. It's none of their business.

Your thoughts?

You are right that you don’t need to say anything. But it’s also your chance to air out all of your grievances.

Also, employers can retaliate if you give a negative reason.

They can’t, it’s literally against the law. No one even contacts past employers anymore because the only thing they are allowed to do is confirm that you worked there, and your length of employment. They can’t talk about talk about you as an employee, a person, or give the reason that you left/got fired.

Exactly.

People do contact past employers, but by phone, nothing on the record.
And if it's on the record, you can tell if somebody is enthusiastic or not, without them saying anything bad.

"No comment" usually garners more interest in your reasons, so I think it's better to use, "I'd prefer not to say" because it ends the conversation there no matter whether they want to know more or not.

I usually just stop turning up if I want to quit a job.

reply

So you spend your final days going in sober?

reply

I don't get it.

reply

Just tell your boss that you're planning to take a vacation in two weeks time until forever.
