I'll admit...one of my favorite things about car road trips....

...all the (junk) food at fast food restaurants and convenience stores along the way!

reply

I agree. Love to grab some slurpees, beef jerky, pizza pringles and combos for my road trip.

reply

Hell yeah, man!

reply

Driving LA to Vegas one night, the random gas station stops were kind of cool.

reply

Indeed!

reply

I disagree. I love road trips, but I eat the same crap food as you do because it's quick and convenient, not because I like it more than good food.

Look, if good restaurants had drive-through lanes, I'd be getting pad thai or crepes through the window and hitting the road, not horrible burritos from Taco Bell.

reply

I suppose so. I understand what you mean, though.

In a perfect world there would be a place that sells fresh truffle pizza slices and creme brulees somewhere on the long drive between home and Los Angeles, but well, this is an imperfect world. But having fast food available is better than going hungry by a long shot, some of it's even kind of tasty, like Popeye's red beans and rice.

And if you're ever driving through six hours of nothing to get to LA, that drive-thru red beans and rice is going to be THE highlight of the trip.

reply

Haha, I can see that!

reply

Now I want red beans and rice! If I can go out for proper ramen, the way I have been, I can go ten miles to the nearest Popeyes.

reply

Um...aren't you vegetarian though (if I heard correctly?) I hate to break it to you, but I think they use ham to flavor the red beans and rice...I'm not sure if that is accurate, though.

reply

I don't want to know....

It's a crying shame that this "fast-food" restaurant chain right here is only located in Connecticut and not nationwide. In my opinion, if any chain should be in practically every city in every state, it should be this one. This chain offers pretty much everything under the sun. It has over 100 menu items!! If somebody can't find something that they like at this chain, then they just don't like food, period lol. 🤤🤤🤤🤤😋😋😋😋

reply

Well, any place that has 100 items on the menu is guaranteed to have a bunch of Sysco Food boxes and a microwave in the kitchen instead of a chef cooking actual food.

But it still sounds better than Taco Bell, a thousand times better...

reply

Are you a fan of the gas station pizza? I feel like most are pretty bad, but Speedway's is actually decent. Got the right amount grease.

reply

It's more about those buffalo chicken rollers! Those things are good!

reply

I haven't had those. I guess next road trip I'll have to check them out!

reply

Yep, you should, especially if you like spicy food!

reply

I was at a Pilot in Beloit, Wisconsin with a pizza that looked like it had probably been under the heat lamp for about 14 hours. The cashier just looked at me and told me she would give it to me for free if I was actually going to eat it. All things considered it wasn't that bad.

reply

Probably was nice and crispy!

reply

Road Burgers, salty fries and a Cola are awesome🖐️!

I’m a bit nerdy so if it’s not my turn to drive I like looking at a map.
I want to know where the battlefields, forts, rail lines and shipping ports were way back when.

To understand history you should first study geography.

reply

Totally agree with your last point, but I do very much agree with the meal you posted!

reply

If only we could go on a history nerd road trip together lol!

reply

That would be cool!

reply

Getting stoned in the car on the way to my destination.

Signed, million man.

reply

Yuck! I would much rather make some decent sandwiches at home and take them with me - along with some deviled eggs and potato salad.

Not saying I never eat fast food, but it definitely isn't something I look forward to doing.

Used to enjoy truck stop food (e.g., biscuits and gravy, Denver Omelet, Western Omelet) when I drove cross country for a living years ago. For that reason, I envy this guy's lifestyle.

I didn't know that everyone would be talking about food! My favorite thing about a long road trip is the chance to devour a lot of books (no pun intended) unless of course, I'm driving.

Years ago I took a long bus trip with a boyfriend. After we visited Disney World we crossed the country to San Diego. I ate only one or two meals until we got to our destination. I'm simply not hungry while sitting on my butt for several days. But I DID read two biographies and at least four novels on the way out and coming back.

If you want to combine books and driving, let me introduce you to the wonderful world of audiobooks! Books read out loud!

I get most of mine from my local library, for free. Thousands of titles available on my smartphone, for no money.

reply

I'll bet audio books are great. I know a lot of people listen to them who have long commutes to work.

I'd probably enjoy audio books at home. But as for driving, it would totally ruin my concentration! When I get into a book, I really "get into" it. And it would not be safe for me to be into a book while behind the wheel! ha ha

I can listen to music while driving. But even that's an iffy proposition. If a great song comes on that I love, I start to drive too fast. Got a speeding ticket that way one time.
