πŸ¦‰ Are you a night owl or an early bird? 🐦

I'm a night owl and there are many nights when I wish I wasn't. I often stay up until one or two in the morning. Β―\_(ツ)_/Β― Do you think a person can change this about themselves? I kind of like early mornings, but I can't make myself go to sleep earlier or wake up early. Is there something wrong with me?

I've always been a night owl, so much so that I've done a lot of night shift work over the years. In fact, the one time I had a job that went from 2PM to 10PM, I never felt so healthy and well-rested!

I think it's a little inborn quirk, just the way I am and perhaps you are. Sadly, the working world has been dominated by day people who think every one wants to get to bed early and get up early, feh.

I've worked overnights more than once and I liked it because there was no one around except the night crew, which I supervised. But my ex wasn't supportive at all, even though the reason I did so is so that I didn't have to put my children in daycare. There were days when I had to be up for more than 24 hours straight because my youngest son was only about two years old then. However, I powered through and some days I managed to snag a short nap when he slept. Even today, I wonder how I did it.

I've worked graveyard shift (10pm-7am) for the last 30+ years, so I'm definately nocturnal to the max.

reply

I didn't work that shift for that long, but I did work it for several years at different times. I really didn't mind it.

If I may ask, what kind of work did you do?

reply

Grocery Store night stocker. Was in the Frozen Foods & Dairy departments for most of that time, but now just the regular grocery department.

reply

My youngest son worked in the produce department at Target, although it was a day shift. I worked overnights at Target for a several years, starting just prior to the Christmas season in the toy department. The last job I had before retiring, was overnights at a craft store, eventually becoming the supervisor of the overnight team. Yes, I had more than one warehouse job in my "career." I liked being "off-stage," meaning I didn't have to deal with the public. That may be why I liked working overnights.

I used to work ridiculously long hours when I first set the business up 25 years ago, but now I try and be in bed no later than midnight; I get up at 5.55am everyday.

Oy!

When I was working, I got to bed at midnight, but didn't have to get up until 8:00 am (thank goodness) Now I'm retired, and I don't have to get up at any set time. It is SWEET!

I used to be a night owl, but as I've grown older, I'm usually in bed around 11pm and then I fall asleep with the TV on; however, I get up much earlier than I used to - 7am is normal.

reply

Definitely a night owl. It is so much easier for me to stay up late than to get up early. I do enjoy getting up early as I feel like I have a much more productive day, but I could stay up late every night easily if I didn't have to be up early for work the next day.

100% night owl. One of the reasons why I love winter is when it gets dark at 5:00 pm. I wish it was dark for 20 hours a day. Something about it really makes me feel more calm and concentrate better.

Night Owl. 100%

I've worked night shifts in previous jobs. Whenever I'm off work I always gravitate to staying up way too late.

I've always detested having to get up early in the morning for school, work or appointments.

Not sure why I'm like this.

reply

Night owl for sure.

Only time that ever changed was when I was studying and working two jobs, so I was too tired to stay up. That's really the only way, I think - keep yourself extremely busy during the day, both physically and mentally drain yourself consistently, and you can change your sleep pattern, at least temporarily.
