Major guilty pleasures in Music

I’ll start with Aqua the whole first album. Everyone loved Barbie girl but i also loved My oh My a lot and a few others.

Tom Lehrer. His mean spirited humour makes me smile.

A sensory garden in the courtyard.

eurodance from the 90s was cool

reply

Early 90's was cool, I also liked 80's house music, I'm not sure how big that was in North America.

I’m a big fan of late 80s to mid 90s EDM. I have a big vinyl collection but I do all my recorded mixes electronically these days. Mixcloud is a really great free site for mixes of that kind of music. I do a couple of mixes a month that I post there.

I just re bought a couple of old CD's from Amazon, Dreamland by Black Box and Orginal Soundtrack by S'Express. Both used, I don't care, I just rip it to MP3.😁

reply

The big Black Box one I remember from the clubs was Strike it Up. What was S’Express’ good songs?

reply

They had a UK number one with Theme from S-Express. Hey Music Lover and Superfly Guy were also Top 10 hits in UK.

I also bought Pump Up The Volume by MARRS today too.

reply

Oh yeah! I do remember them now. I have a hard drive with EDM from the early 90s and I have a folder for each year. 90-92 seems to be almost completely filled with artist from the UK. 👍

reply

I always liked Pump Up The Volume. Our radio station used to have a parody singer, named Earl the Soul Singer, who did a camping version of this called Pump Up the Mattress.

Some of his other gems were I Love My Baba (parody of La Bamba by Ritchie Valens), Walk Like An Apache (parody of Walk Like an Egyptian by The Bangles), Into the Bathroom (parody of With or Without You by U2), and The Vinyl Markdown (parody of The Final Countdown by Europe). I am so sad that I can't find any of these anywhere.

reply

I used to love some radio jingles from the early 90's, like you I've searched for them but have never found anything.

reply

They were full on cover songs. I think there was an album put out. When I did look for it I found a thread talking about it and someone said they found one for like $200. I liked them, but not that much.

reply

Ever since reading this comment I've had Ride On Time in my head. It then made me think of the movie The Cutting Edge, so now I'm watching that.

reply

I'm guessing Ride On Time is in that movie. The only film I've ever seen directed by Starsky is The Running Man, and I've watched that many times!

reply

It is. :)

That's really cool, I love Aqua too and many of my music playlists have bubblegum pop bands. It's weird that everyone just knows Barbie Girl when (in my opinion) they have a ton of awesome music. My oh My is great too, one of my other favorites is Dr. Jones.

reply

Yes, I love Dr Jones too.
Aqua had a great first album.

I love some great bubble gum pop so much : another huge favorite group was Spice Girls especially they first album with say you will be there

reply

I like a lot of country songs, especially Luke Combs.

reply

that was really cool him winning the Acm, he wasn't expecting the award you could tell

reply

Cibo Matto

And no, it isn't because of the fact that they are two cute Asian girls. I dig their whole gig.

reply

Anything by The Bee Gees or Barry Manilow😊

reply

Big Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978) fan here.
