Three that come to mind that I really enjoyed are Old Boy (2003), Tae Guk Gi (2004) and Let the Right One In (2008).

I found both Jauja (2014) & Cosmos (2015) unique - but not in a good way - they were bloody awful.
Two non-english films I really liked, but are not particularly unique, were The Lunchbox (2013) & Human Capital (2013).

I skipped the bloody awful movies, and went to "The Lunchbox" after reading a sentence on IMDB... 7/10 - thank you.

Maybe it's just me, but I was much more interested in Shaikh, who played 3rd banana.

The Human Centipede (2009).

Toilet: A Love Story (India)
La Famille Bélier (France)

Toilet is based on a true story.
Oscar's best-picture CODA is a remake of Bélier.

Dragon Quest Your Story. Japanese. I would recommend playing Dragon Quest 5 first to avoid spoiling this great game.

Das Leben der anderen (the life of others)

Good movie. If you liked that, you might love "The Ear" (1990) -- the movie was banned for 20 years!
It's a more natural, domestic movie.
