I think they were riffing on Verhoven's subversive genius. It was a great film, imo - but not in the top 20, tbh. That's about the only weird one. Lots of international movies as well.

I would say having Inglorious Basterds on such a list is a bit odd also.

It's a pretty good list, although having just rewatched it this week I am a little surprised they didn't find a spot for The Human Condition. Perhaps its status as a trilogy meant it'd have to hog three spots, although I''d think it'd count as one long film split into three bits myself.

Edit: Oh, no The Ascent either.

They loss all creditability IMO when they selected Starship Troopers as # 5 of all time. John Wayne couldn't crack the top 50? Love for #9 Sgt. York but no love for Audie in To Hell and Back.

I love Apocalypse Now, but number 2 on the list? Nah. It should switch places with The Thin Red Line at #16.

As far as I recall, I've seen only MASH and Saving Private Ryan on this list, but I agree that Starship Troopers was overrated here. And I'm not sure MASH should have been rated that high, either. I can see that there are a few of these that I should see.
