Do you think that the Beatles would have sounded more like Wings if they had stayed together?

Maybe John Lennon leaves or stays. Paul at this time was their leader.
If John left, then maybe George would have written and sung more Beatles songs. Maybe some McCartney- Harrison penned songs.
Ringo makes movies between records. Maybe he drags Paul and George into some of them.
Or Paul ends up bullying George and Ringo, becomes the main songwriter with George and Ringo doing a few songs on each album of which are basically "Wings" records.

Jeff Lynne joins and turns them into The Electric Light Orchestra.

reply

His short stint with The Move > ELO.

reply

Then there’s The Idle Race preceding that.

reply

Nah, Macca again would be the main songwriter. Jeff would have to split vocals every other album with Ringo.

Haruomi Hosono joins and turns them into The Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Yellow Magic Orchestra!!! Now that was a seminal band.

reply

I have one of their albums on vinyl and it’s addictive. Lol

The first time I heard "La Femme Chinoise" back in the day I was bowled over with amazement. Damn I haven't listened to it in years. It's still terrific!

They're only the band the Beatles could have been.

reply

Still a much improved Wings. Better guitarist and drummer and no Linda on keyboards and backing vocals.

reply

Probably a lot of the band's from the 60's and 70's became bland and commercial in the 80s.

You realize that “apostrophe-s” is a possessive and not a plural, right?

Oh, wait. You’re the guy who thought that gentlemen curtesy. My mistake.

reply

Yes, they would have. This is based on output. John and Ringo didn't have much at all as solo artists. George pretty much emptied his vault with "All Things Must Pass". Paul started up with "McCartney" in 1970. He started hitting his stride in 1973 with songs like "My Love" and "Live and Let Die". In late 1973 he releases "Band on the Run". Then he just kept going and going and going. By the mid 70s, John, George and Ringo were pretty much done. It stands to reason, if The Beatles had stayed together, they would eventually sound more like Wings than The Beatles.

The 1973 Ringo album is an example of "what might have been." All four former Beatles contributed to this, as both songwriters and performers.

When the four went their separate ways, to me it seemed McCartney had retained the most Beatles-like sound. I always thought songs like "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" or "Jet" could have easily been Beatles hits.

I really wonder if Lennon would have destabilized as much as he did in the 1970s, if he'd had McCartney around. Yoko may have been a soulmate, or at least someone who was willing to give up her career to spend 24/7 dealing with his issues, but McCartney seems to have been the one who could slap some sense into him.

But well, when it came to McCartney vs. heroin, I think Macca's odds wouldn't have been good.

all the groups changed in the 70s into the 80s.
