reply

Oh, yes, has not as well. I forgot about that one lol.

reply

Are not, am not, have not and is not. It's not a real contraction. It's a slang word.

reply

I am aware that ain't is a slang word, but ai should be short for something am, are, is doesn't fit.

reply

Because, again, it isn't a real contraction.

reply

"Is" is also a slang / creole for "am" and "are." Just like in the song "Is You is or is You ain't My Baby." It makes sense from the prespective of people whose first language isn't English (or similar.)

reply

It's is a completely acceptable contraction. Its is a possessive pronoun.

reply

Nobody said it wasn't acceptable. The point is it isn't a genuine contraction. It's slang.

reply

Why isn't it genuine ? What is more genuine ? Is't or is't not a contraction ? lol.

I'm not trying to argue, but I think you're being silly about this.

reply

Silly. Right. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

reply

It’s not “short” for anything. It’s emblematic of being a hick.

reply

I tend to agree with this.

reply

It ain't me babe.

reply

🎵 No, no, no, it ain't me, babe. It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe. 🎵

reply

No. It's used by us sophisticates for emphasis.

reply

"Ain't" is the incorrect way of saying "Isn't." It was a term made up by uneducated morons way back in the day, and is unfortunately sometimes still used.

reply

I ain’t sure.

reply

I ain’t edjumacated enough to know.

reply

Aint... Huh! What is it short for? Absolutely nothing!

reply

I'd say am not more than the others. But am-n't doesn't look right and saying I aren't isn't correct either, so ain't works better phonetically. Sometimes words aren't about grammar, but about sound.

reply

Imma get back to you with an answer when I find out.
