Bullying in the work place?

There's two toxic sisters who are my coworkers. I recently found out from another co worker that they've been saying some very malicious stuff about me, spreading lies and even gone as far as to talk about my family,I don't know what to do about this situation,do I confront them and take the risk of it getting bad at work,or try to get some sort of evidence first so I can take it further?this is obviously defamation of character but i live in the UK and don't know much about this. I don't want this to jeopardize my job but I've been trying to think of the best solution without losing my cool at work, advice?

I would probably have a different view than most people since I work as a contractor, but I would just start searching for a better higher paying job. I don’t know about the UK, but in the US their is a strong demand for labor right now. Unless something truly egregious happens to you on a job it is probably better to play it cool and use the experience as motivation to find something better.

I'd say possibly try and get someone to record a conversation, then forward it to you. And then make a report to whatever HR department is at your disposal, so you have it on record. After that, if nothing happens to them and they continue, there's nothing more you can do except confront them or leave the job.

Whatever you do, never confront those people. They'll just blow it up even more and nobody, especially your bosses, want any of that.

If it's just all talking and no physical bullying and you don't want to jeopardize your job then simply ignore them and focus on your work. Be productive, try to get a raise and promotions. When you become their superior, you've had your revenge. Haters gonna hate.

Nobody likes those kind of people, but nobody also wants to deal with the aftermath if you happen to make them blow it up. People simply want to work. Just make sure you're not the one who ignites the explosion.

A nice casual “so, I’ve been hearing you’ve been saying shit about me. Do we have a problem here?”

Most bullies who choose to talk behind your back will crumble if you say that to them with confidence and a smile.

Well who knows, depends on the pathetic wanker acting like a twelve year old schoolgirl I suppose. Point is I wouldn’t care. I stopped worrying about what other’s thought of me a long time ago and would quite enjoy the confrontation just to see them squirm.

Ask your other co-workers if they heard any of those rumours and if they did, tell them they're not true. Then when you have enough people, go to your boss and use those co-workers as your evidence.

You need dates, names & info on who said what to who. Keep a log of all the information you can get then take it to head office (or as high a manager that you can find). Tell them you want an investigation. They can't refuse because then you can sue the company for not looking after you.
