Have your driving habits changed?

With the crazy prices are you driving the same or less?

It's averaging $4.19 here in Cincinnati and I drive a hybrid that gets around 40 mpg, but I'm trying to be a little more careful than when the price was around $2.

I also have a Miata that gets driven only in nice weather and I filled the tank up when gas was $3.29 and Im glad I did. (Hard to believe $3.29 gas was a bargain.)

No, I’ve got no choice but to keep to my work routine

How far is your commute?

reply

60 miles one way for me. I drive upwards of 150 miles a day. I drive a dodge that gets 20mpg

reply

so how much does that cost per week?
why not get car with better mpg?

reply

Can’t afford to buy a different car right now. I fill up every 3 days or so. At 5 dollars a gallon right now i am paying about 160 dollars a week. I pay about 700 dollars a month in gas at the moment.

reply

About 110 miles a day at about 25 MPG…it’s adding up for a lot of people, hopefully things change

reply

Try to get some coworkers together for a carpool. That's a damn long commute!

reply

That’s sound advice for some, but I have tried carpooling, it’s too much chatter first thing in the morning

reply

yeah yeah , but it halves your fuel bill , not to mention emmisions.

reply

And doubles my early morning irritability…

😆

Ouch.

reply

That's still a lot cheaper than it is here. According to conversion calculators, it's about $6.28/gal here, and I live where gas is cheapest in Canada and our highest price in the city is 1.659/L.

I don't drive much but if it stays up this high for awhile I certainly won't be travelling much this summer.

reply

My business mileage for the last two years is virtually zero.

reply

LOL - nice to work from home and you guys in Europe are lucky to have such great train systems.

My husband and I are retired, so we can cut back if/when we feel it's necessary. Kroger is one mile from our house, so no biggie for that trip. I do feel for people who have long commutes to work, especially those who live on tight budgets.

reply

We get virtually everything delivered.

reply

me too, new twist on that today, they emailed me a password , that the driver then asked for.
a new one on me!

reply

Well, if you are going to order weapons grade uranium, what do you expect?

reply

I certainly drive slower nowadays than when I was a teenager.

reply

I didn't even drive when I was a teenager - didn't get my license until I was 21.

I just bought another bike a few months ago. Me and my wife both can ride bikes, we have 3 of them now, 2 Hondas and 1 Yamaha. I drive my car very rarely nowadays, only to the shopping mall or when my son needs to go to school. The bikes sip very little gas compared to my Chevrolet.

reply

Not much. I work 14 miles away from my house.

reply

I still pass people on the right, I still tailgate people in the slow lane, I still speed up so big rigs can't change lanes, I still think one car length is safe following distance at 80 mph, I still hold up traffic waiting to turn left on a "NO LEFT TURN" sign. Because fuck you.
